Landfill Site S35

Recommended Posts

Hi

We are 3 weeks away from completing on a house and it has shown on our environmental search that it was built on a landfill and has 4 other sites close by! We are so frustrated that the report only came through now when we would assume that would be the first thing our solicitors checked for! We have emailed environmental agency for more info but any one have experience of buying in the area with those issues.

Thanks in advance

If it is high green , the houses that have been built are on the boundary of the old land fill site .

It was a small local site for land fill although there was a lot of mining spoil deposited around that too which was cleared , i know of no other sites in that area and have have lived round there for over fifty years .

Hi and thanks for the reply.

It's in Grenoside actually and it has shown up 5 sites and one on the exact location of the property. Thanks

Probably not much of a deal breaker, I assume the house isn't new?

Alot of places are built on old spoils or industrial areas, or old mine workings.

As long as the relevant survey work is done they are usually fine.

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to reply, we are due to sign for it in tues but the solicitors are being useless.

The house is in Stephen Lane and the quarry is skew Hill which the house is supposed to be built on and cross house Quarry. Cross house is showing as having commercial and inert waste but the skew Hill one is liquid sludge and chemical. Obviously people have been living her ok though but the land is showing as contaminated which is making us want to pull out.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Evelyn
