Would I need planning permission?

Will I need planning permission to put a lean to canopy at the side of my house? thinking of something similar to this

i doubt it as it would come under permitted development.

It depends if others have right of way over the land, I imagine you probably wouldn't need permission but that looks hideous and I imagine building control would want to see plans first and do a few checks on it whilst charging you some hefty fees.
