Why do we have food banks?

Recommended Posts

For anyone that did not see it.

This nurse earns £22k and still needs to use a food bank.

It's stated she's single, and nowhere is it suggested she has dependents. Perhaps her housing costs are disproportionately high, she's repaying debt, or she's spending unwisely.

I think it's easy to understand the need for foodbanks for households who are having problems with benefits; where someone loses employment suddenly; for those on basic levels of benefits, especially under 25s. But without knowing how her outgoings are broken down, it's impossible to speculate what she's actually living on.
