Property ads in newsagents' windows

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a room for when I move back to Sheffield soon (mature student at the University). I've looked on all the websites, got the Sheffield Telegraph delivered etc but wondered if anyone knew where the best place is for property ads in newsagents windows (like the one at Hunters Bar, which I know about)? I'm coming up from London on Thursday / Friday at need to get it sorted out!

Cheers folks :o

The post office on Eccelsall Road has some in the window, as does the newsagents a little further down (near Santino's).

Failing that, try the newsagents in Broomhill (next to Somerfield) and, if you can be bothered, there's quite a few up in Crookes.

When my g/f and I were looking for a place a few weeks back, there were plenty of rooms available in the windows, so you should hopefully have some luck. (Unfortunately, we were looking for a flat to rent together, so it was no use to us  )

Good luck... and welcome back to Sheffield! :D

Try the post office on crookes main road, usually plenty on there as I use it for ads myself.

Good Luck!

my name is Sheffield, which is obviously the reason I have the want to visit the city from which my ancestors left some 300 years ago. i even work in a steel related industry, manufacturing of steel motion furniture parts. my name is Tom or Thom in the UK. i live in the state of Mississippi. i would just like to have someone tell me about Sheffield, England. u being a doctor, if u have never been associated with USA medical practices u would be shocked with the greed and graft in the system. not so much the physicians, but the heirachy i.e. hospitals, insurance, etc. are just a legal mafia. sometimes i wish the UK would take back the org. colonies and 37 other added states<lol>. please tell me about Sheffield...

Shefield is an Ex-stell industrial city, witha small-moderate sized city centre, and large area of sub burb, built on 7 hills. It is hilly. very hilly.

A popular and relaxed atmosphere suitable for univeristy students (it seems the place is over run with students from both Sheffield Hallam and Sheffield University), has a variable crime rate - some places are "dodgy" and some areas are very nice, with the popular places to stay being

- Crookes

- Broomhill

- Hunters Bar

- Walkley

- Netheredge

Everywhere else, requires car trainsportation from point A-Z, and would be abtou 30 mins drive away to the city centre. There is some general public transportation, in the form of busses and trams, and one is encouraged to walk (and grow hill llegs as I call em) if you stay here any duration of time.

Food is reasonable, ranging from typical designer cafes to `orrible student targeted takeaways. Standard of living is moderate to reasonable, and rentage for shared accommadation is within reasonable limits to out-ragous.

From a developer point of view,

land is cheap, and Sheffield is favoured by various IT and new start up companies for tenure

NHS system - has your typical Acute emergencies run by the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals system - comprising of 5 hospitals

Acute emergencies and services - Northern General Hospital

Specialist referral Hospital - Royal Hallamshire (linked to Sheffield University Medical School - great for research)

Children's Hospital - Kids only *grin*

Jessops Women's Hospital - THE place to give birth now (redevelopment)

Weston Park - Speialist Oncology hospital & Research (top rated research facility in S Yorkshire, with 2 linear accelerators being built)

Hope that helps

Well, I found somewhere! I would say that the newsagent at Hunters Bar roundabout is the best for adverts. I drove / walked around Broomhill / Crookes / Walkley with very little success There seemed plenty of availability in houses for 4 or 5 people (although when you ring they're often gone). I actually got my room through an advert on the web - the best sites seem to be:

http://www.sheffield.freeexchange.co.uk

http://www.letalife.co.uk

http://www.torent.co.uk

One word of warning - given that it's a good few years since I left Sheffield I thought I'd go and investigate the Riverside Exchange flats (as there seem to be quite a few adverts), thinking that they might have imrpoved the whole area around there - but no - I certainly wouldn't want to be walking home at night down there after a few beers!

Roll on September - I can't wait to come back!
