dangerousedd   10 #37 Posted February 5, 2017 Yes I am all in favour of growing things local and more does need to be done. We will have to have more greenhouses heated of course by solar energy if this is possible, to grow lettuce in colder weather. I think I should leave this topic to the experts on here who are geenfingered. I am definitely not.   there's pit greenhouses and Chinese greenhouses but im not convinced we would have enough light in the uk to make them work well for winter crops.  http://indoorgardenhq.com/2014/07/09/23/passive-solar-greenhouses-chinese-design/
 Share this content via...
jamesstarky   10 #38 Posted February 6, 2017 We have a community garden at St Mary's on Bramall Lane. We use raised-beds in the grounds of the church. Our volunteers grow vegetables that go straight into our café.  Community growing projects like ours are a great way for people to get out of the house and get their hands dirty, make friends and feel useful.  If you know anyone who could do with feeling better, please ask them to pop-in to St Mary's or give us a call on 0114 223 0240 to find out more.  Cheers james
 Share this content via...

hauxwell   243 #41 Posted February 7, 2017 I managed to get some packet Iceberg lettuce in Waitrose today  I am pleased you managed to get your iceberg lettuce. Over the last few days even though I did not want any I was looking in supermarkets for lettuce, there was no iceberg in any of the shops. So well done to you and I hope you enjoy it after all your hard work.  ---------- Post added 07-02-2017 at 13:08 ----------  More of these? http://www.thanetearth.com/how-we-grow.html  However the local Tesco still sometimes buys tomatoes from abroad  Yes I think you are right and it all helps to make us more efficient.
