They tried to do the same thing to me, the way the advisor had spoken to me was terrible so I had written of letter of complaint, luckily her name was on my card so I put that in, tell him to get the persons name and make a formal complaint about the Advisor they are there to help you not to criticise even though the Job Centre feel they have a right to criticise and look down on you, I hope he gets it sorted speaking from experience and the fact that I have written many letters of complaint to them, they are a law unto themselves they really are.

I remember when I was about 18, my advisor used to try and make me confess to lying about EVERYTHING - she used to insist I must have a partner, I must be engaged to someone, just because I have always worn a ring on my 'wedding' finger. Some of them are ridiculous.

i am an ex benefits officer and i was nice to everyone i dealt with, in training (intense traing too)we were told repeatedely to be courteous towards customers, yes that what you and i claiming are called,i found it doesnt get you anywhere whilst being nasty and condecending towards people,
put it in writing and make the complaint, i was unfortunate enough to be at the job centre when some poe faced member of their staff treat me like an idiot, she must have receved different training from myself when i worked for the DWP, i pointed out that i used to work there but she didnt give a ****, but not all of them are narsto's but those who are, want reporting like her

I was unfortunate enough to be on the dole a couple of years ago and the adviser I had was brilliant, she helped me no end and bent over backwards to get me on courses and sort out the mountain of paperwork. I can understand how they can get jaded with the amount of (for want of a better word) scumbags that they have to deal with, the kind of people that just want their dole money and aren't interested on getting a job but not everyone is like that. A lot of people genuinely want to get into work and should be helped. Can one of his parents go with him next time and have a word with this person before reporting them?

just a quick up date. his mum spoke to the job centre, and they have said , put everything in writing. they will then look into it and then decide if there is a need to change adviser! or they can come in before the appointment with the adviser and see a manager, or wait for the appointment next week, have his mum accompany him to the meeting where they can discuss any issues. my friend asked her son what he wanted to do, and he has decided to go into the benefits office to meet with a manager on Monday. will keep you posted.

if they come in before the app, the dragon at the front desk can refuse entry to extra persons attending if they havnt a work focused interview, signing or expected there, watch out

Some older people do bully those that are younger than themselves, and some behave just in a stricter parental-like manner that might come across as bullying.

Oddly enough when a teenager is out of work we often hear phrases that the parent should kick their butt and make them get a job....is that bullying too? Just something to take into account if they don't have strict parents then are faced with someone telling them what they really need and ought to be doing, may seem like bullying to them. It is about perception, but does depend what has been said that makes the difference.

What did they say that verges on bullying?

one of the remarks he made was : If You don't go for these jobs i will find out, then you will be in trouble. I Can have your money stopped. just like that. all said with a threatening tone. not in normal way. he has printed off jobs in chesterfield which have a 6am start. the lad dose not drive, and yes there is public transport but none would get him there on time.( The Lad Looked ) when he has pointed things like this out to the adviser his reply was :well that's not my problem, ive got a job. he once asked his adviser about some paper work he needed. the adviser told him to return in 2 days and he would have it for him, when he returned 2 days later . he was told his adviser was on 2 weeks holiday and to make an appointment to see him when he returned I agree its how you word words. the young lad in question has been brought up to respect people, one of his mums saying is treat people how you expect to be treated, and respect your elders. that is why the problem has gone on too long. the lad is a good lad.

All he has to do is look and apply for local jobs he can get to, then he has proof of trying. If he is indeed a good repsectful lad, this will soon be spotted and he should get a job soon enough.

His advisor sounds a bit of a muppet and is not being helpful or encouraging by the sound of it, although advidsors can warn of the money being stopped. That in itself, even worded strongly and very sternly, isn't outside of their remit.

It's often hard to get your point across and when you have worked in a job centre and sign folk on forntightly who come in the car, have a smoke outside before coming in, put their high spec mobile phone down on the desk in front of you, possibly wearing work boots and covered in paint on their "work" clothes, when not wearing the latest designer t-shirts, you are aware they are not exactly going without enough to make the biggest effort to get a job and its clear they are making no effort, have an excuse for everything, and when you find them jobs to go to interview for they make excuses, then there is little wonder some advisors patients wear thin. Been there, done that.

When I worked for Reed in JC+ 10 years ago I got on well with my caseload and had around a 75% success rate into work, but you can spot the ones that work on the side and claiming everything they can get their hands on, the ones who are workshy and the ones who are lazy. However I guess some advisors probably get fed up and end up tarring them all with the same brush, or they just have a bad attitude anyway. They wouldn't last 2 minutes with an attitude like that in any other job.

Put a complaint in, some of these 'advisers' should be sat on the other side of the desk. They can hardly complain about others putting no effort in. They're supposed to be employed to help vulnerable people back into work, not bully the weak to boost their own sad little ego.

I hear Cameron wants to stop welfare for under 25's. This kind of bullying won't be a problem, be get your ass something to do or starve. Honestly there's just too many excuses, the good thing about being a teen is you can do anything and people will give you a chance. Some kids don't even know how to present themselves or communicate properly tho.

In this group I'm in, one of them is 18 year old kid, running his own local marketing biz. That's the kind of attitude which gets you far. From USA though, who d
have little welfare. This over reliance on state handouts helps nobody.

Sounds like that advisor needs sacking. Should give his post to the young lad, he sounds like he'd do a cracking job!

Sure my post was deleted but why would a 21 year old have his mum ring up the job centre for him?
He needs to sort himself out i'm pretty sure Mcdonalds/Burger King/KFC or something of there like will have some vacancies so why not look there and then wait until a more suitable job comes along or even make a career there as i'm sure its decent money once you start getting promoted.

Nowt wrong with Mcdonalds. It was in the top 100 employers to work for. Plenty of opportunities if you don't mind flipping burgers for a few years while you earn your stripes.
