just thought I'd bump this up because reading Sheffield Forum has made me paranoid and I'm thinking of setting some sort of camera system up.

things must have come a long way in 2.5 years, so any suggestions anybody?

my main concern is that the most expensive item in the house is actually the PC, so anybody breaking in would probably nick it. is it possible to record remotely from the house?

.

I wonder if it is posible to use a camcorder connected to the pc instead of a webcam? Gives better resolution?

how much hd space would it take sampling say every 5 secs?

Thanks.

If it is purely for people turning in your drive I wouldn't bother - even if you have a clear video of them doing it there is nothing you can do with it. No criminal offence has been committed, and for a civil offence you would have to prove harm has been done to you.

My bother installed one of the Maplins systems for my mum, you can add up to 4 or 8 cameras, it is HD based so records constantly and you just link it to your TV. It is surprisingly good.

My friend on the next road had burglars last week and although she has a burglar alarm she forgot to switch it on when she went out. She is now thinking of having security cameras installed . I think she will be shocked at the price of supplying and fitting. Has anyone already got these cameras and are they worth it ? Your advice would be welcome.

I know a few people who've got them installed, they all are very happy with them.

I think alot of the time it brings back that sense of security that was robbed from you when a stranger broke into your house.

I have a set of webcams, internal, pointing out and uploading images to a NAS (which to be fair could be stolen if someone knew what they were doing).
If I could be bothered I could configure it to upload to the cloud, and I DO have the ability to monitor the cameras and recorded video remotely.
