muckymurphy   10 #1 Posted October 25, 2016 just been on norwood road at junction with fairbank road. first i heard a magpie squawking which is unusual in itself at this time of night. then a very loud calling from something much more exotic. only ever heard this noise coming from bird cages. sounds like an escaped pet. is it yours? katkin   10 #6 Posted October 26, 2016 if the bird in question was bright green with a long green tail and a red beak, it is more than likely a wild Indian Ringnecked parakeet - pet birds that have either escaped or been let loose at some stage are now becoming well established and breeding in the wild. Originally they were prevalent in the south but they're becoming more hardy and we've had reports of them being seen in and around Sheffield.
