If TDF has inspired you to get a bike/back on your bike..

Recommended Posts

Lots of people have been talking about getting bikes for the first time, or getting back on their bikes following the brill TDF yesterday!

Here are some things which new riders might find useful -

Sheffield Cycle Boost - You can borrow a bike for free, for 4 weeks to try out, and then give it back, or buy it at the end of trial period at a cost of £100 (greatly reduced cost for a nice, sturdy bike)

Recycle Bikes - a not for profit bike project based in Heeley which refurbishes bikes and trains people, you can buy 2nd hand and refurbished bikes at very reasonably prices and support their good work

CycleSheffield - Sheffield's local cycle campaign. Organises social rides, and campaigns for a more bike-friendly Sheffield. Offers advice, camaraderie and new friends. Membership £6 year for individual, £8 family.

Space for Cycling Sheffield - one of Cycle Sheffield's campaigns to make Sheffield a place where anyone can ride a bike (not just the quick and the brave!) You can support the campaign quickly and easily here here and keep an eye on the Facebook here and Twitter @S4Csheffield for news about when the next big family ride will be.

There's a much more extensive list of everything a newcomer to cycling in Sheff needs to know here

I would like to think it has but to be honest lots of people have bought new bikes which is great but its how long they stick at it that counts.

When reality kicks in that there are hills and wind and rain then I can see most of them going in the shed collecting cobwebs.
