PopT Â Â 10 #1 Posted January 13, 2007 Does anyone have any memories of dancing at the Shades nightclub? Â Love to hear your memories of the 60's. Â Â Happy Days!
 Share this content via...
pensionipper   11 #2 Posted January 18, 2007 Hi PopT, never danced there but saw Cocker one time. He was good but the Grease Band were terrific! It was almost worth having to drink from those horrible plastic 'pots'...... Good days.
 Share this content via...
only_me   11 #3 Posted January 18, 2007 Hi PopT, i think the Shades was on Ecclesall road, its now the site of napoleons casino. My dad often mentioned the club as it was owned by a friend of his called Max omare, Max went on to own other night clubs. Sorry i also dont know about the dancing but at least your thread has been bumped.
 Share this content via...
mikeG Â Â 16 #4 Posted January 18, 2007 Dont think I ever got round to dancing there. Around 1969/70 used to call in Saturday nights after drinks in Crosspool Tavern, York, then walk down. After a few more ales and a goat curry I was fuelled up enough to walk back home to Fulwood. Couldn't do it now tho.
 Share this content via...
Cliffhanger   10 #5 Posted January 18, 2007 Used to go there in the early '70's. Seem to remember that the Woolly Bully was pretty big back then. You kinda lined up in rows opposite each other then proceeded to kick the living crap out of the row opposite in a kinda can-can stylee. Hmmm
 Share this content via...
rubydazzler   11 #6 Posted January 18, 2007 Oh yes, just loved that Woolly Bully dance - although it always seemed to end up with some people falling over and dragging everyone else down with them. Watch it now, watch it now, here she comes, you gotta take a chance, you're gonna learn to dance, oh woolly bully etc etc (or words to that effect ) Used to do it at the Mojo too, iirc.  Is Max Omare still around? Maybe he's a member of SF?
 Share this content via...

rubydazzler   11 #10 Posted January 20, 2007 Ey up Ruby, I never knew it had words other than "Woolly Bully, Woolly Bully" ...  obviously I had the wrong words! You're right though, it was mostly "wooly bully"  Uno, dos, one, two, tres, quatro Matty told Hatty about a thing she saw. Had two big horns and a wooly jaw.  Wooly bully, wooly bully. Wooly bully, wooly bully, wooly bully.  Hatty told Matty, "Let's don't take no chance. Let's not be L-seven, come and learn to dance."  Wooly bully, wooly bully Wooly bully, wooly bully, wooly bully.  Matty told Hatty, "That's the thing to do. Get you someone really to pull the wool with you."  Wooly bully, wooly bully. Wooly bully, wooly bully, wooly bully.
 Share this content via...
