What does OTE stand for?

Recommended Posts

May sound daft, but what does OTE mean when applying for a job?

eg. £12,000 to £18,000 OTE

Okay im even more confused! ''Ordinary Time Earnings'' what does that mean? ''On Target Earnings'' does that mean you get paid only if you reach targets set? Which is it and what does it mean?

Sorry if i seem a bit slow, but i have a job interview tonight and next to the salary it says OTE and i dont understand!!!! The horrid job im at at the moment originally said £15,000 OTE on the advert, but when i came to the interview i was told the wage was £10,000 but then another girl, same age and experience, was paid £15,000 and i dont wanna be taken for a ride again!

Please help......

Just checked on Businesslink.gov.uk; I stand corrected. I think it has a different meaning in Australia.

I thought it was 'On target Estimate', the estimated earnings based on reaching your sales targets

It's an estimate, because it is highly unlikely you will drop spot on this figure ;)

Did a Google search for "on target earnings" and got a few results, among them:

Welcome to Hobsons... The on target earnings for this individual are in excess of £35k. ... Basic Salary is in the region of £15-18k with on target earnings of £25k+ ...

http://www.graduatecareers.hobsons.co.uk/result_ profile.jsp?EmployerID=2686&Content=Vacancies - 31k - Cached - Similar pages

So I would surmise that there should also be a "basic" salary, which would be worth asking about at the interview, just in-case.

Good luck anyway. :)
