Cricket Season!

Recommended Posts

Cricket proper starts again on Sunday, the last time there'll be a 9-team top division.

Probably the beginning of the end for county cricket too, before city-based franchises lurch over the horizon and batter down the ramparts.

No County Championship matches for Middlesex, Lancashire, or Yorkshire (in action from Monday against MCCU sides, and all three at home next weekend.)

So. Here's my predictions:

Winners:

Yorkshire. Again.

2nd Warks

3rd Middlesex

4th Notts

5th Lancs

6th Somerset

7th Surrey

Relegated:

Durham.

Hampshire.

2nd Division.

Winners:

Sussex to bounce straight back by quite a long stretch.

Rest - nowhere. (Essex probably about the best of a pretty bad bunch.)

Well. That was accurate!

And it's "Game on" at both the top and bottom of the County Championship Div 1.

A rested Brooks and sidebottom will do early damage Yorkshire to chase down a target of 170ish I reckon!

I think that's a fair assessment. Bit of cloud cover so it should nip a bit. Been the most exciting finish I can remember.

The speed Middlesex are scoring at is not good, worst scenario is setting us an impossible chase.

Yorkshire allowed them to get runs to encourage a declaration.

Sounds like a difficult wicket to score quickly for Yorks once Middlesex decide to shut up shop and play the draw out.

Yorks want 99 off 70 balls with 6 wickets in hand......Bresnan having a great game.

Spoke too soon .

160 for 6.....Bresnan and Gale out.

Looks like it will be Yorks trying to play the draw out.

It's been a good Championship year, and if it can't be Yorkshire ,I hope it goes to Somerset.
