annbaker   10 #1273 Posted March 23, 2017 I was there the day they arrested 7 people on Chippinghouse Road. They were sat under the tree in question (which was felled later). The tree was healthy and there was minor pavement disturbance. There was no animosity shown whatsoever from anyone who was there - there never is as various videos on the STAG fb page will show despite some cllrs claims to the contrary.  Inspector Stubbs advised he was acting under direction from the SYP legal team until he was given contrary written advice by a STAG member provided by a what has turned out to much better informed barrister. This I am quite sure was a major factor in the CPS decision.  On each occasion there were several policemen present. Bit heavy handed for a bunch of peaceful protestors
 Share this content via...
Olive   10 #1274 Posted March 23, 2017 (edited) If they were treated to some maintenance then perhaps everyone would be happy?  Yes, definitely in a lot of cases. For some, the maintenance is so long overdue that it's too late. What a shame. Edited April 28, 2017 by Olive
 Share this content via...

Streets with planned tree works got a letter informing them about the work and provided the link to where you could write your opinion on the proposals.  If you had a legitimate reason why the location of the replacement tree was inappropriate then you could have voiced your concerns there. Robin-H Â Â 11 #1281 Posted March 30, 2017 I think he'd know if he'd been consulted! Â If they either didn't receive a letter or received one and didn't notice it wasn't junk mail then it backs up my belief that the supposed consultation was in many ways flawed. Â If they did receive and read the letter and chose not to respond when prompted to highlight their concerns then they can't claim to not have been consulted. If they have decided on a place to stick a tree then that is the place the tree is going to go. The only consultation they understand is that you either agree with their decision or they ignore you and go ahead with what they want to do. Some would call this dictatorship but they call it consultation
 Share this content via...
onewheeldave   22 #1283 Posted April 1, 2017 (edited) Further to the 'consultation'.  Here's a link to a Star report about the fact that, where the Western Road trees are concerned, the council disingenuously took advantage of the fact that they are classed as war memorials.  It's 2 page 'consultation' leaflet referred only to 'the war memorial on Western Road', and, does not once mention the word 'trees'.  http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/anger-at-lack-of-trees-on-leaflet-for-western-road-memorial-meetings-1-8464996  It's a shame these 'councillors' don't use their obvious cleverness for actually serving the public in a useful way, rather than using it to scam us.
