NigelFargate   10 #3 Posted January 23, 2017 By coincidence, I have been playing my old Can records in the last few days - Ege Bamyasi and Flow Motion. There was no group quite like Can and Jaki was undoubtedly one of the best drummers ever. His drumming in Can had a rhythmic, mesmeric quality which gave the group a unique style, quite different from other Krautrock groups.  In addition to Can, I have also been playing other Krautrock groups recently, such as Amon Duul, Faust, la Dusseldorf and of course the greatest of them all, Kraftwerk.  There is an amazing video of very early Kraftwerk on youtube called 'Heavy Metal Kids', which indicates that the band could have made it big in the Heavy Metal genre, had they not decided to pursue another direction, and change the course of modern non-classical music in the process.
