soulvapour   10 #1 Posted December 25, 2016 I was woken last night with something running around in my attic. Ok I'm guessing it's a rat or mouse. I've lifted the hatch and was greeted with yellow wool fibre. I'm told it's asbestos!! Years ago I'm sure this council home was draft proved and checked for asbestos. So am i safe to go in, or is it asbestos?
 Share this content via...

Fogey   10 #5 Posted December 25, 2016 (edited) Probably mineral wool. I would advise a facemask and gloves at least if you start moving the stuff about. Asbestos in loft insulation is most likely to occur in Vermiculite, which was sometimes contaminated with asbestos due to the fact that much was mined from a site in canada which also contained asbestos.  Apologies, the mine was in montana. andyofborg   11 #6 Posted December 26, 2016 look on the bright side, if it is asbestos then your rat/mouse/whatever wont last long
 Share this content via...
Margarita Ma   10 #7 Posted December 28, 2016 Mineral wool. The noise is more likely to be birds or bats than rats. Mask, gloves and decorating all in one and dispose of all in the bin. Are there chimneys in the house? You may have a bird trapped in one.
 Share this content via...
