I love that phrase "adders basking". I took this photo in Devon warning of this:

Do any other animals bask?

The 'snake' is from the snake on the Coat of Arms of the Dukes of Devonshire, and the pass is named,apparently, after the Snake Inn, not t'other way round.

Not the way the road snakes through/along the hills?

99% of animals bask. If bask means relaxing in the sunshine. Even humans do it, oddly enough.
