24 Hour Drinking (sessions)

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of anywhere that has applied for a 24 hour or late license in Sheffield?

What do people think of it? Personally, I think its brilliant, although I can see there being 'teething problems', notably in the "drinking under the table stakes" which will invaribaly accompany this alcoholic renaissance.

It would be nice to have the option but already know I couldn't handle that much boozing (because I'm a lightweight and am usually more than merry in an hour thanks muchly).

Later drinking hours would be great though and I may even find I pace myself rather than the opposite and drinking too much too quickly.

I'm not aware of any pub, bar or club in Sheffield that has applied for 24 hour opening.

I know the 24 hour Tesco on Abbeydale Road has applied for a 24 hour off licence, but obviously that doesn't count...

oh, I don't know... I can see myelf and my mates heading down to Tesco, setting up deck chairs on the booze aisle, and spending a few hours a night rolling around on the supermarket floor getting plastered, leaving other customers to pick their way through the debris. :D

I must admit it will be nice to have a few more drink after 11pm rather than thinkin hmmmmmm where can we go now - all bars that already have later licensin in the centre charge after 11pm cause they know people want to carry on drinking. Guess if more and more places get later licenses it will prevent this!

To be honest, when I looked at the title of this thread, I assumed it was some sort of invitation.

Who's up for it? ;)

Maybe with the advent of non-stop drinking, pubs and bars could start introducing soundproofed 'sleepy corners'? With nice long rows of beds, teddy bears, pyjamas, and a designated employee to tuck you in.

You get a quick hour's kip after 13 pints, then you get back to resuming your evening (or, by then, more probably morning) session. Sorted.

The changes in licensing laws are meant to stagger various closeing time. A handfull of pubs in sheffield have applied for late licenses (opening till 2 or 4), and I also guess you'll see more and more pubs opening till around 12.

Some casinos and simlar outlets will benifit and these will serve drinks much longer.

As for 24 hour drinking, my last understanding is that there has only been a handfull places across the whole country that have even contempleted appling for that (sheffield not being one of them), most places just don't see it being profitable or easy to serve people at 5 in the morning.

Off course there are also various groups telling the government that the British simply arn't responsible enough too handle these type of drinking laws.

Reading the forum I wonder where they get these ideas from......:suspect:
