Ex-servicemans blue lapel pin with a letter s

Recommended Posts

In the fifties, my father used to attend an ex servicemens organisation meeting on a regular basis in the 'Royal Pub' in Woodhouse.

He used to wear on his coat lapel a pin. It was a small diamond shape, with a letter S on a blue background. What did it signify?

I haven't seen one since.

My Dad used to attend the Fellowship of Services (FOS) meetings at the "Big Tree" pub at Woodseats in the 1960s. He too used to wear the same sort of badge. I may still have it in his belongings. However, I don't know what the "S" stood for.

I understand the 'S' stood for 'Serviceman' those that had served in H.M.Forces

and not necessarily during war time. My brother had one and also attended the fellowship at Firvale , he was in the Royal Navy in the fifties.

Try the head office in Rotherham.

The address is in the link an above posts.

I was a member of the Fellowship when I first came out of the army and can honestly say it was an organisation which embraced all ex servicemen and cared for the welfare of its fellow members.

I think membership has reduced considerably nowadays due to many factors.
