You have to persist , it will take time .

Keep taking him out on the garden regular and if you see him cocking his leg up scoop him up and put him out side , he will get the message .

Try him off the lead and shut the house door so it cannot run back in , wait till he pees and then praise him .

We have a young dog and he was hard work as a puppy but we got there

Agreed. It is a lot of work and you feel that you will never get there but all of a sudden it will click. Well worth it so stick with it.

If your using puppy pads always put them near the door . Do not move them around thinking if he gets caught short he will use them, it will just tell him it's ok to go anywhere in the house . When he starts going to the door put him outside and praise him when he does anything. When he's eaten take him out in the garden for a wee also when he's had a nap in fact every few hours put him the garden and praise him if he does anything. It will take some time to train them . Also don't use disinfectant to clean his mistakes use hot water and washing powder because sometimes the smell of disinfectant can act as a marker for them to do it again in that spot .
