Banner Cross beer festival.

Recommended Posts

Driving up Ecclesall Rd the other day and noticed a chalk board outside The Banner Cross Pub advertising a beer festival being held there over the Bank Holiday.

Been going to The Banner on and off for years but never known them to hold a beer fest.

Looking forward to this. Hopefully they'll put on a few interesting beers.

If you're going to this it's worth noting that the Lescar have one too.

I was in there the other night and they had practically run out of beer whilst stockpiling stuff for the the weekend so should be pretty good. And worth the walk - or a taxi ride.

White Lion at Heeley and Old Hall at Hope both also have beer festivals on.

Why not buy an all day bus ticket and do Banner Cross, Lescar and White Lion all in one day?

Banner Cross - buses 65,81,82,83,84,85,88,272

Lescar - as above plus 83A

White Lion - 10,10A,20,20A,25,25A,43,43A,44,53,253

Banner Cross is a great sport to watch sport but there is not a lot of ale choice normally. Must have been fun watching football or cricket there today.

Paid a brief visit to the Banner Cross on Saturday, great set up out in the beer garden with an outside bar with a number of guest ales on gravity along with a band and BBQ plus big telly on the back of the pub showing football.

The best beer festivals in the area are the 3 Valleys held twice a year around Dronfield, Barlow & Holmesfield. They involve around a dozen pubs who provide hog roasts, barbecues, pizza ovens, live bands, and hundreds of real ales and ciders.

But the clincher is the 3 free buses they hire to take folk between the venues. You can visit all the pubs and a brewery and watch a dozen bands and eat more or less anything you might desire. Brilliant..

That's great to read as I'm the person who brought the format to Dronfield and encouraged the venues to put the 3 Valleys festival on. I'm still involved with co-ordinating it.

The 2014 Three Valleys Festival should be bigger and better with more venues and more buses. Date is Saturday 7th June.

In the meantime plenty of individual pub events going on around Dronfield and Sheffield us of course various beer festivals organised by CAMRA and SIBA.

I've been given the job of ordering the beers for Sheffield CAMRA's Steel City Beer & Cider Festival this year, which takes place at Ponds Forge 23-26 October.

What's happening at the Banner Cross? Seems to be having a major refurbishment. Hope it's not ruined.
