Kev P Â Â 10 #98 Posted October 3, 2014 Hi all. Great memories brought back reading this thread. I'd have to find my ticket stubs for a complete list. From @ 1975 to 1979 starting with Hawkwind supported by Bethnal,I saw as many Metal/Rock bands my pocket money could afford. I'll find the stubs, could be a long list. I have one question though, it's been bugging me for years and after reading this thread there are people who attended the same gig and i'm hoping you retain more memory than I. The gig, 1978 Black Sabbath/Van Halen. My memory is that Sabbaths set ended after only 4 or 5 songs, in the middle of Iron Man, I think. Some sound malfunction? The set lists I've seen for the gig are complete. This was not so, of that I am certain. I would appreciate it if any of you who attended can share your memories of the gig. Kev  I was at the Sabbath/Van Halen gig.. my memory, usually decent for the gigs I was at, doesn't recall Sabbath playing anything other than a full set, including Ozzy having a "gun" with a strobe light in the end to blast the front rows with dazzling light at the start of aforementioned Iron Man. I am absolutely sure I would have recalled them only playing 4 or 5 songs.  Richard
 Share this content via...

A quick search on the internet turned this up, which adds more confusion. A forum subject of Best Support Band.  " Van Halen did indeed blow a bloated and lethargic Sabbath off stage - didn't help when Sab's PA broke down halfway thru Iron Man leaving just Bill Ward's drums audible, they returned when it was fixed but what little momentum they had had vanished by that point. I was down the front at Sheffield City Hall and grabbed one of Alex VH's tossed drumsticks but it was snatched out of my hand! "  Could it be we walked out of the gig, thinking they had finished. We both just can't see that, it could be so though. We often missed the last bus back to Doncaster and could only get to Rotherham, then we walked. So missing the last bus all the way to Dony wasn't an issue. Cheers Richard
 Share this content via...
Vasquez Rich   10 #103 Posted October 8, 2014 Well I do remember VH being somewhat "very good, who the hell are they".. as me and mates discussed the day after! Maybe we are both right, they did stop, then started again. I was in row C, spent the whole gig wobbling in front of Ozzy and by the end was sweating buckets.  Richard
 Share this content via...

My mate insists the VH lead singer looked and pointed at him because he was the only one head banging in the circle. Was talking about it yesterday with him. Infact got all the ticket stubs out and had a nostalgia afternoon. I'll stick them on here.  ---------- Post added 08-10-2014 at 15:48 ----------  With the help of ticket stubs, programmes and online gigography information for my 1st gig at Sheffield City Hall which was Hawkwind September 23, 1977. My last, other than occasional visits home was @ 2 years later. Here's the list. ( ) is the times seen at SCH, if more than once.  Hawkwind (2) Hawklords Rush (2) Bad Company Camel Saxon Judas Priest (2) Be Bop Deluxe Bill Nelsons Red Noise Manfred Mann's Earthband (2) Wishbone Ash Ufo Def Leppard Blue Oyster Cult Black Sabbath The Scorpions Lonestar Steve Hackett Steve Hillage - The place was full of a strong "floral" smell unfamiliar to a young 'un from a pit village. Journey/Pat Travers Band  Took a girl on a date to see the Eurythmics, can't remember when but anyway, i fell asleep and for some reason she dumped me shortly after. Well, it's been fun for me, going through the ticket stubs.
 Share this content via...
