Cyclist who use a bike on public roads should pay some kind of tax to use the infrastructure.

And what about all those cars that don't pay any duty? Its no longer silly electric cars like the G-Wizz, but cars like the 1.5 diesel Ford Focus:

Excellent point, there should be no exceptions. Those you mention should pay more than cyclists.

As I mentioned in another thread, if cyclists were subject to VED, it would be zero rate because they have no emissions (and don't cause damage to the road, I've had several disagreements with the Tarmac, and it always wins) The administrative cost of taxing cyclists would be detrimental to other road users, we would end up paying more in our VED to cover it.

Takeaway food packaging ought to be taxed and the revenue gained from this used to clear up the McDonalds and KFC litter from our roadsides.

These two companies seem to be the main culprits and the least willing to address the problem. The road sides around Crystal Peaks are a disgrace.

Businesses pay business rates, some of this should be used to cover some of the litter removal cost and the people dropping the litter need catching and prosecuting..

From April next year councils will get to keep business rates collected so they can use some to carry out litter cleaning and patrols...

Add a big tax on carbon emissions and other forms of pollution. These activities have a high cost which is currently hidden by being paid for by society.

Make that revenue neutral by scrapping corporation tax and income tax entirely.

The EU had a carbon tax idea.
