baddodaddo   10 #1 Posted August 21, 2015 Hi, just had an email from Virgin Media saying that My broadband speed will be upgraded free in the autumn. As I am already on 152mb I wonder what it will be upgraded to? Anybody else had the email?
 Share this content via...

The Joker   10 #5 Posted August 21, 2015 I'm on their 50Mb package, but I'm hitting download speed of 55Mb at times, so I'm looking forward to a free boost to 100Mb
 Share this content via...
weex1 Â Â 10 #6 Posted August 21, 2015 Wow,I am on their 50mb package, and I am always getting 55-60 mbs..
 Share this content via...
Ghozer   112 #7 Posted August 21, 2015 the uploads are stupid...  it's meant to be 10:1 so a 150mbps down, should be 15 up...  those that specifically purchased the XXL before the 100mb were upgraded to 150mbps have 15mbps upload, and I was told, that's what I would (eventually) get on the 150mbps....  with 300mbps, it should be 25+ for the upload... Cyclone   10 #8 Posted August 21, 2015 I'm on the middle package now, I might actually downgrade to save a few quid as I've no need for 100Mb+.
 Share this content via...
bkcin   10 #9 Posted August 21, 2015 the uploads are stupid...  You could use an alternative provider if you aren't happy with their packages.
 Share this content via...

Ghozer   112 #11 Posted August 21, 2015 15Mbs upload stupid????  considering it's on 152mbps download...  look at BT equivelents, 'upto' 78mbps down, gives you 20mbps, which is already more than the soon to be 'upgraded' VM... AlexAtkin   10 #12 Posted August 22, 2015 (edited) Virgin have excellent downstream speeds but their upstream really sucks.  A few years ago they were supposed to be adopting a 10:1 ratio between down and up, but they quietly canned it. Presumably they realised it would be costly to upgrade their back-haul to handle such an increase in speed.  ---------- Post added 22-08-2015 at 05:08 ----------  considering it's on 152mbps download... look at BT equivelents, 'upto' 78mbps down, gives you 20mbps, which is already more than the soon to be 'upgraded' VM...  You are quoting BTs real-world maximum download speed against their upload line-speed.  BTs average real-world speed is more like 74MBit down, 16Mbit up.  I'm connected to Origin Broadband at 80/20 and on average get only 73/15 on speedtest.net and most often 66Mbit in real-world use.
