Tram Stop cameras

Recommended Posts

When on the tram recently my phone has picked up a Tracsis wifi network so not sure if they're been used as wifi access points for the trams?

There's no plans to install WiFi on the trams.

Sheffield City Region are surveying travel patterns including multi modal Interchange to understand demand for travel to influence future transport policy.

They are doing passenger interviews and using cameras to count footfall just for a few days.

It has been arranged by SYPTE.

A better idea would be to interview non bus / tram users to find out what could be done to get them onto public transport rather than fiddling with the travel of those actually using it.

That way they may find out how to get people onto public transport.

The data that's being collected is about actual travel patterns. They are collecting data on all travel modes, not just public transport. They do carry out interviews.

It's being used in the building of a multi-modal transport model for the city-region. These models are used to asses the impacts of developments or potential schemes.

Lets hope it is being carried out by a competent body and not SYPTE then, their involvement will only remove any credibility such an exercise may have.

Models like this are very big and complex.

PTE's and Local Authorities don't have the expertise to build them.

This model has been commissioned by Sheffield City Region. The data is being collected by a specialist company and the model is being built by specialist consultants.

From that we can now assume that this company and these specialist consultants are also getting specialist fees.;)

Lets hope its not the same company that advised on the nonsuper Tram construction then.

That was money well spent - NOT

Most cities (especially Leeds) in the UK would love to have a tram system like Sheffield's, but, unbelievably, people here are STILL moaning about it 20+ years after it was built.

So do you think we'd be better off without it?

Do you really think that the same people who build transport models also advise on tram system construction?????

Sheffield has the smallest tram system of the three cities I have previously lived in.

That was not a complaint by the way, I use tram almost every day, size doesn't matter.

For UK standards Sheffield tram is very good.
