Opnion Pls: New Bathroom Refit

Recommended Posts

Hello all

Not entirely sure I'm posting this in the right area but would like a couple of second opinion's please.

We are having our bathroom renovated and the work includes:

-Remove current bathroom suite

-Replace old sash window with new PVC window

-Board all walls

-Build false ceiling with spotlights

-Tiling to all walls and floor

-Install walk-in shower & shower unit

-Install bath, sink, cabinet, towel radiator, toilet

The plumber has given a approx time frame of 2 weeks to complete everything.

The bathroom suite is from H2O in Sheffield, not the cheapest items but we didn't want poor quality.

Please can you let me know your thoughts on the prices below, just to get an idea if we're paying roughly the right amount, or not!

Fitting - £3,200 (includes tiling, electrics & plumbing)

Bathroom suite - £5,000 (includes new window)

Thanks!

If the labour quote is for two people working full time, it's about right if a bit on the high side for Sheffield. It's about £21 per hour per person if it's for two people. Bear in mind that your sole-trader plumbers is acting as project manager, has to carry insurance, provide a warranty for their work, and provide for bad debt.

The materials quote looks high but it's so dependant on what you have specified. It's also dead easy to check online . If the boarding being supplied isn't specified as being waterproof you need to consider this. I wouldn't spend eight grand on a bathroom if it wasn't going to last a very long time and ordinary plasterboard won't.

Also consider that wet rooms with welded seams to the floor are quite specialised. Again if this isn't what you've specified, think again, as you are just pouring cash down a toilet that you haven't yet bought!

Hope it goes ok.

When you consider what there is to do, I wouldn't be surprised by the labour quote. 5k would be a high spec finish I guess (PVC windows aren't that much, but taps, tiles and suite would be the main cost ).

In the same region that I spent, less tiling involved, but it was marble...

So depending on what you've specified, yeah, it seems reasonable.
