Crosspool or Crookes?

Recommended Posts

Interesting observations. Are you sure you mean Meersbrook? The vast majority of Meersbrook I would say was white middle-class. That's not a criticism or the opposite - just an observation. Heeley is certainly more ethnically and socially mixed, as is Nether Edge close to Abbeydale Road, and Sharrow of course.

Was this Meersbrook or Heeley? Meersbrook is actually quite hard to get to from Gleadless due to the huge allotments site (largest in Europe I think) and the way the roads are arranged. It would be quite a trek.
maybe I don't mean gleadless then. The bit where the high-rise flats are before you get to Blackstock road. They'd walk down Northcote Ave or through the lower allotments and pick from the area around Upper Albert/Upper Valley/Rushdale etc

Half a mile at most, so no big trek

Ah, that makes sense. Things have changed pretty rapidly in Meersbrook over the past twenty years. It's been 'gentrified' (horrid word) and is now pretty heavily populated with young professionals and slightly older 'professionals' with families (another horrid term but not sure what else to call them) and there's not a huge mix of ethnicities - mainly white. Again, this is simply an observation not a criticism! Over the border in Heeley is more mixed still, certainly.

Anyway, back on topic - any Crosspudlians care to share their experiences? Is it all about striped lawns and home-made cake?

Has anything of note ever happened in Crosspool? Does it ever 'kick off'? Or is its sheer dull nothingness the secret of its lasting charm?

Nowt wrong with Crosspool. Could do with a decent pub but not far to walk to Crookes or bus to town. Been here 20 years and love it.
