Is news travelling slowly? Van Morrison was knighted in the Queen's Birthday honours List in June this year.

How on earth can Barbara Windsor deserve to be given the title Dame ?

In brief she has starred in a few Carry On films , Eastenders , Online Bingo advertisements and jumped on the British Legion bandwagon . Some of her choices of friends and associates in the past have not exactly been pillars of the community .

Are the powers that be, now scraping the barrel with some of their decisions to give people honours ?

It's all about the knockers.

If we're going to have an honours system then I think honours should really be about people who go above and beyond, and never get recognition.

People in the public eye like b list celebrities, or political cronies drag the whole 'honours' system down.

Just my opinion of course.

She's also campaigned on behalf of a number of charities for at least 20 years, including being an Ambassador for Variety, Age UK, British Legion, Children In Need and the SCT amongst others. It's well publicised she's to be made a dame due to her charity work, not acting career.

If they were scraping the bottom of the barrel to give people honors, then perhaps they should be looking on this forum to give out honours for moaning?

That's hell of a lot of Lords n Ladies in Sheffield.

Look at the list, you probably won't have heard of 99% of them.

A total of 1,196 people are on the list, with just over three quarters of the recipients people who have undertaken work in their local community.
