Ronksley history

Recommended Posts

I am researching the William RONXLEY (RONKELSEY/ RONKSLEY) who was sentenced to transportation to Australia along with WILLIAM LEE (both Lee and Ronxley) were said to be natives of SHEFFIELD) after being tried at the YORK ASSIZES for seditious activities in late 1802.

They seem to have been genuine revolutionaries but I have been unable to trace them in Australia and wonder if they were ever transported or simply died awaiting transportation in the hulks.

Any details at all would be helpful.

Case was in the York Herald, March 12 1803, William is down as Roukesley

William Lee as a 42 year old, sentenced to 7 years transportation each.

Many thanks. Yes I had spotted that one - but I can still find no evidence that they (despite their sentence) were ever actually transported. Did they die in the hulks while awaiting transportation? Or was something else going on? regards
