blackydog   40 #38 Posted April 22, 2017 "Adult match prices £27, children under 18 £12 so its a lot more."  That's about what you would pay to "walk up" at Bramall Lane. Easy to halve the kids prices by simply registering them as junior blades for free.
 Share this content via...
Ridgewalk   101 #39 Posted April 22, 2017 It has just been announced that my favourite band ever, Queen ,are to appear (without the King obviously) at Sheffield Arena on Dec 8th.  "Wow" thinks me a chance to see this amazing group again (the last time was a Elland Road Leeds seeing Freddy at his very best) . Then! I looked at the price of a ticket , it is the grand sum of £88 ,a sum that excludes me straight away.  So this has got me thinking is general entertainment now just for the well off in our society ,I mean look at our local football clubs charging £30 plus for some matches (if this involves a family of three or four then its a no go for most people). Then we have our theatres where the cost of tickets are rising by the month once again meaning that the families that would benefit most from attending the arts are priced right out of contention .  So( just as is now the case in other walks of life )is entertainment and the chance to see our heroes just for the rich   You've seen nothing yet, wait until the Tories win an increased majority  ---------- Post added 22-04-2017 at 08:13 ----------  There are plenty of low cost theatre tickets if you were genuinely interested, a lot of theatre companies are charities so actively support people on low incomes coming to see their productions. However, like everything in capitalism, the purpose of a private company is to make money regardless of whether that's Tesco or Man Utd. Man Utd will have amazingly complex pricing models to maximise revenue at every turn, from seat prices to sausage rolls. Queen will have done the same. If you want things to be different then you need to start voting for it. For example for people under 26: https://www.sheffieldtheatres.co.uk/your-visit/16-26-year-olds  All power to you Sgtkate. People need to wake up and think ...  As Corbyn stated the other day, the rich, elite, establishment, whatever you want to call them, rig everything in their favour
 Share this content via...

Ridgewalk   101 #41 Posted April 22, 2017 Although usually they are, not everyone I grant you, but your chances of attaining a high status in British society are considerably advanced by being born into the right family, attending the right school and having the benefit of "contacts"
 Share this content via...

*Belle* Â Â 10 #43 Posted April 23, 2017 There was a time when, pre huge venue days, world famous artistes would be happy to play venues like the City Hall for a reasonable fee. I would cheerfully fork out for such a venue. I wouldn't be interested in seeing anyone in the cattle market, arena type venues if they were giving the tickets away. Each to their own, but as long as the mugs keep going to these venues, you can hardly blame the artistes for raking in a million quid for a nights work. We both saw Joe Cocker for nowt and some of the finest footballers these islands have produced for a bob or two. Agree it's a bit rough on the kids of today though if dad can't provide. *_ash_*   88 #46 Posted April 23, 2017 I don't think a football analogy is a good one in this case.  Football players are signed with an annual wage, and paid that some (perhaps with bonuses), it might be vast amounts of money, but it's still not the same; in this case, people go to 'arenas' and expect to see special effects/big screens with stuff flashing etc.. it's the kind of crap that people want and expect. I'd rather just see a band playing in a pub/club and listen to them.  It must cost a fortune to pay all those people just adding effects. I watched that MJackson last tour thing on bbc4 the other day, and the number of people, choreographers, lighting specialised, special effects, managers linking all these things together,. I would be amazed if they could make much money even with 5000 people paying £100.  What you should complain about is the booking charge. That's where you're getting ripped off. The cost of running the whole thing is included in the price they set.
 Share this content via...

Guest   #48 Posted April 24, 2017 I've only been to the Sheffield arena to see a music act twice, it was to see Prodigy and then a few years later, the Killers; granted they're bands that suit an arena type venue, but I imagine going to see, say, Adele or Simply Red for instance, in an arena setting, unless you're right at the front, will be a crappy experience.
