What Internet Speeds Do People Get?

Recommended Posts

I hope this is in the right section for a start.

I've recently moved back to Sheffield after a few years and am living around the Handsworth area and I've been surprised at how slow my internet speed is, even just opening up websites can take its time.

Today I did a speed check and got back a download speed of 0.03mps... Even though I'm paying for around 18mps!

I will be moving soon so I was just interested to see what sort of speeds other people were getting in different areas of Sheffield. :)

(p.s I used speedtest.net to check mine out)

We are on virgin media cable in s5 and pay for 100mb but we only get 20mb at best.

They keep saying it will be fixed by the 10th of december.

Got to say the speed you get is shocking...

Its pretty bad how they entice people in with the 'up to' speeds and then don't/can't deliver anywhere near them. Hopefully they will get it fixed by then!

Yeah, I'm pretty unhappy with the connection its peaks at about 1.2mb so its helped in the decision to move.

Similar here - I pay for 50 meg, but other than early mornings it's no where near that.

Last night it was as low as 1.2 that's nearly 50 times less than what I pay.

Usually it's about 10 meg in the evening,

Really? Have you tested it at 8pmish? Mine crawls to snails pace at nights.

I used to get the exact same as you at Norton Lees on Sky Broadband. I now have Sky Fibre and get about 40mb download speeds x

I now get just under 10 down / 1 up. Check your internal wiring if you're getting slow speeds. In a fairly modern flat, my master socket had one extension connected with the bell wire and I was getting less than 5. Disconnected and it's now up to 10ish.

Cabinet still hasn't been enabled for fibre.
