I think its the organised frivolity which is so shoddy, reminding me of Butlins trying to dragoon people rather than allowing people the freedom to organise their own entertainment.I think some people are lime sheep and enjoy safety in numbers but others seek a more individual solution.some people are happy to go on package deals, others can organise their own holidays. Its is called being contrarian, the type of motive and sentiment which accounts for the existence of groups like Pulp rather than dross like Take That.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? you really have blown Carnage out of proportion and away from a night dressing up and getting drunk to a special occasion run and organised properly by a company.

Enjoy safety in numbers.... you really think for one second a student takes the time to think "hang on if i go out with hundreds of people in town tonight wearing the same as everyone else i will be safe".

Freedom to organize their own entertainment... so they don't go out every weekday when such events are not on? they just wait until an event is on or they don't go out?.. carnage is on Sunday night (or at least use to be) town is dead Sunday night.. carnage drags business into a town full of empty bars.. they are not sheep but they are going to the bars that have atmosphere which wouldn't even be there without carnage.

Sorry but your whole post is just way over the top.

When your young you have 2 choices

1) join in, meet other people and enjoy life

2) not join in and be left out. you won't meet anyone and your student experience will be a bore

Your young once, students should have a fantastic time. For god sake, in 3 years time these students will have to face reality, until that time comes - chill and enjoy life

Most of your questions seem rhetorical so I wont try to answer them.Carnage it seems is like a good samaritan as it rescues all those humdrum bars that lack custom.Perhaps you would be better served attending a local church as they certainly seem down on numbers-best not go dressed as a tart though!

Do you think a shy introvert will be transformed into a charismatic extrovert by attending these events. All these events do is to crystallise peoples' attitudes. They are not for sensitive introspective and reflective people, but wil appeal to the boorish, the gawdy and the airhead.

The shy introvert has 2 choices

1) join in, make new friends, become more confident

2) stay at home surfing the net

By my rekoning, if he takes option number 1, he would go out, become more confident, make new friends and if hes really lucky get a girlfriend (who will probably bring him out of his shell)

If he take option number 2, then a very boring 3 years of uni life awaits this person.

I think you have been watching too many USA teen movies. The shy person can find other ways to make friends such as a rock climbing group, chess club, campanology, ornithology etc.Not everyone must fulfill your stereotype of a college jock/geek dichotomy, although sometimes this can upset the conforming type.
PS what do recommend for Muslims and other non-drinkers?

Just seen this

You really are out of touch with the modern world and obviously like to be over analytical about such small things.

Exploit students, compel them to drink, acquire self-esteem and make friends?

mountain out of a mole hill is the expression best suited here.

You need to take the emphasis away from the Pimps and Hoes part it really is not as it sounds. Self esteem is nothing to do with it, they don't go out get really drunk just so pluck up the courage to speak to new people and feel good about them selves.

Students drink, they party, they are not model citizens as soon as they turn 18 and conform to the 9-5 rat race. yes they have good intentions by doing the degree to better them selves but on the road to this degree they are fully entitled to having fun in which ever way they like. Most will go out 2,3,4 nights a week its there way of enjoying themselves. whats wrong with that?

surely you had your ways of having fun when you were that age? maybe it wasn't going out and drinking but each to their own.

I am not defending all students i will fully agree that some will go out get so drunk that they have the "Ooops who are you and why are you in my bed moments" but you can't put them all in one category.

You seem to think I am at fault for thinking.I dont mind students having a drink but why allow yourself to be herded like sheep by an outside party? Why not do some thing rather more original? It is mindless and ultimately very safe and conservative.

Humdrum bars that lack custom?

do you even know which bars are included in Carnage? and as you don't socialize by drinking with friends and colleagues ( i presume because drinking is for people with low esteem) do you even know which bars are classed as lacking custom?

Your being presumtuous, believing that the event drag students into any old bars

I was simply repeating your own words.I think you may have been drinking as you seem to be unaware of what you typed earlier and your hitherto impeccable spelling is starting to falter. You also seem rather snobbish dismissing some bars as unsuitable.I will not be engaging in further exchanges with an intoxicated poster.

Thankyou Matt1471992 your well put forward argument has convinced me it should be stopped.

Now that I have my sarcasm out of the way. The obvious comment to your post is "Why should it be stopped then in your opinion?"

Reads all about it!
Wonder how Laing is getting on.

This really is an opaque contribution- are you involved in espionage?
