PeterR   10 #422 Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) I lived in the Cannon Hall pub from 1973 to 1981 and as far as we could find out from Whitbreads the old hall was converted and added to, this was very obvious when you looked " behind the scenes " . The large room on the left was a new addition with mens & ladies toilets , through to what used to be a concert room, we lowered the ceiling & changed it into the lounge & when you walked towards the back door from behind the bar & turned & looked up you could see where an extra room had been added to give the living quarters 3 bedrooms, kitchen, lounge & dining room. The ceiling was arched with plaster motifs. That left the original building being used for the tap room & the snug, an extension was added for the tap room toilets.  Happy Days .....!!  I've enjoyed the posts about Cannon Hall. Wish some photographs had been unearthed aswell. Looks like I'll have to borrow my grandaughter's Tardis.  Peter  ---------- Post added 07-10-2015 at 13:24 ----------  Hi PeterR - Don't know when library picture was taken, if its recent it still looks good. fleetwood  Hi Fleetwood,  The pic you refer to on my post 421 was Picture Sheffield ref u02942 and undated. Here's a link:-  http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;u02942&pos=1&action=zoom&id=38120  A pic showing tram overhead wires so must be pre 1960:-  http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;v00734&pos=1&action=zoom&id=42129  Another pic showing disabled access but dated 1989. Presumably the buiding was either cleaned at that time, or as part of a programme to clean public buildings after the introduction of the clean air act in the early 80s :-  http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s29892&pos=1&action=zoom&id=101602  In 2011 much the same as now I recall. paulowls284 Â Â 10 #428 Posted October 9, 2015 As someone who was born and bred in Idsworth Road I have enjoyed the exchanges.Unfortunately I left about 40 years ago but plan on visiting shortly from the threads I have read it seems I am in for a shock.I still have memories (good) of been at Hucklow Road Junior school and was wondering if it still exists. For those who lived on Idsworth Road from 1956 my surname is Berry just in case anyone remembers our family. Arthur Bell   10 #429 Posted October 9, 2015 I lived at 16 Stubbin Lane from 1949 to 1952. Dr Pettigrew was our family doctor. I had a minor mishap on my bicycle riding up by the library. Like a lot of kids, I used to stand up on the pedals going up hill. Well the pedal broke off and I came down hard onto the handbar stem. I had a lot of bruising and my Mother ( God rest her soul) insisted on taking me to Dr Pettigrew to be checked out. I was about 13 at the time and was very reluctant to visit Dr Pettigrew and drop my pants for her.
 Share this content via...

Snowbird   10 #432 Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) Here's a link to pics of the Firth Park Pavilion and Library:-  http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?action=zoomWindow&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s11082&prevUrl=  http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?action=zoomWindow&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;u02942&prevUrl=  ---------- Post added 06-10-2015 at 12:48 ----------   Sorry you are upset about the pic Snowbird. I'm thinking it was taken just before demolishion. Where was the Cannon Hall? The nearest existing one I can find is in Barnsley. Although the cottages were at the bottom of Barnsley Road, I thought it seemed a long treck away. The Cannon hall was just across the road from the cottages next to the Sunbeam cinema. It became a pub in the fifties which was demolished recently to make way for a tesco!!! Thanks for the Library and pavillion pics. I spent many happy times there.
