Does anyone use dog walkers?

Recommended Posts

I've got an intensive few weeks of work coming up and don't want to leave my dog without enough exercise during that time.

Does anyone have experience with dog walkers? Was it positive? How much do they tend to charge?

Any opinions would be useful!

Thanks

Hi Bacon 1 I have run Waggytails for 10 years , most of our customers have been with us 8 to 10 years , I personally have no car , I walk most places with dogs ! I charge £8 per hour which is an average charge , personally I am passionate about the dogs we have in our care , originally I built the buisness for my husband but since I only nanny now for 1 afternoon a week I do this along side my husband . We also walk individually or in small groups usually no more than 4 in a group , we do walk off lead with owners permission . I have to say we have never been happier

I take my pup to doggy den on little London road.

He gets spoilt there. Gets to socialise with other dogs and loves going.

We've used a walker since my other half had to take a new job meaning he'd be out of the house during the day.

It costs £9 per day. We just leave cash each Friday for him to collect. We can cancel a walk any time for example if we've booked a day off work last minute, so long as we give a couple of days notice

She gets a minimum of an hours walk, sometimes she's out all morning though. She goes out in a van and is walked with a couple of other dogs. We just have to leave her lead, coat, collar, pen and paper for any messages, treats and a towel out for her each day. When she's dropped back she's rubbed down if she's wet and given a dentastix. She's usually fast asleep with her legs in the air when I get home!

We walk her in the mornings and evenings as well.

We use Impawtant Friends based at Oughtibridge, it's well worth the money for the piece of mind we get knowing she's had a toilet break and isn't going to be too bored all day (for us exercise isn't an issue she she gets plenty anyway).

If you use one of these services I'd check they're actually been walked. I've seen one service take dogs to the park by car then exercise them in a tennis court whilst the adults stood chatting, before taking them back to their car. In 30 minutes I'd typically expect around 1 to 2 miles be covered.

I take some of my dogs to a private tennis court and the owners know that they are being let off there , its because most of them cannot be off lead safely anywhere else and their owners want them to run especially if they are greyhounds or whippets, it gives their owners peace of mind that they are being socialise and having exercise which on the lead they can't get .

It can't be you because this isn't a private tennis court, also they have a car.

I didn't think you were supposed to use park tennis courts to exercise dogs?

Obviously private ones are different.

one of my customers has access to one and we have special permission to use it but only for that group , I also thought you weren't allowed to use them as its council owned land but I do know that another dog walker has use of a council court which is no longer used for tennis , so my guess its its up to the court owners etc

Some of my customers like to know how far their dog has walked, this is why i use a pedometer on my mobile, its tracks how many steps and miles iv walked and also shows the time that those miles have been done in, roughly on a busy day walking between 2 and 5 dogs i do about 8 miles all on foot :)
