That was the root of the problem. The series was shown in Poland (with Polish subtitles of course, as we don't understand or speak Engrish) and they thought "Hmmmski, if England is empty of tradesmen as they're all in Germany (taking German jobs) maybe we could nipski over to Englandowicz and work on thier building sites." The reason most have gone back to Poland is that in 1939 when the Poles weren't looking, the Germans "nipped" in uninvited and caused merry hell. So hence most "sausages" have gone back just in case the Jerries do it again.

It was Polish troops that finally dislodged the German paratroopers at Monte Cassino. The Poles did indeed pay a terrible price. First, under the brutal cosh of National Socialist Germany, and then under the brutal cosh of Communist Russia.
