It's May 2013 and thanks to Cameron, the whole of the UK has the opportunity to decide whether Scotland should become an independent nation.

Salmond isn't keen for soem reason, but he's got the chance to get what he says he, and Scotland, wants.

Everyone has been given the chance to decide whether Scotland stays in the United Kingdom. How will you vote?

It's win all round. They get independence, we'd get less Labour seats and no more English taxpayer subsidy of Scottish lifestyle.

Rebuild the Wall!!

Salmond isn't keen for some reason
As I understand matters, he isn't keen because he wants his cake and eating it (not quite full independence -analysts consider that he doesn't believe such a referendum would win out-; more like "super-devolution" retaining dibs on UK tax coffers), and the UK Gvt told him to take a long running jump in Loch Ness (sh*t or get off the pot). Rightly so. ;)

We need to get shut of Scotland as soon as possible. The English pay massive subsidies to Scotland that we would be better spending here.

The Scots seem to think that they could substitute this by laying claim to North Sea Oil revenues. Whether we give them the revenue is not really relevant. The Oil belongs to the UK and is in our sector of the North Sea, but even if we handed it over to Scotland there is bog all left of it.

I think 75% of all reserves have been extracted and revenue is fast drying up. I think we need to get a referendum held pretty quickly and allow the English to vote in it as well. We need to get Scotland and its subsidies out of the way before the Scots realise that there won't be any oil revenues in 20 years.

without Scotland, Labour would never win a General election again and rightly so for using Scottish Labour MP's to push through legislation that only effects England.

Kind of ironic though- conservatives are traditionally the strongest proponents of the union, so will conservatives leave the tories if the union is allowed to fall?

oh the irony vein does run deep in Scotland with the Tory's, but I doubt their 1 MP (0.3%) will have much of an effect compared to the 37 (14%) Labour would lose.

I think in the Westminster Parliament Scottish Labour have 40 seats and the Scottish Conservatives only 1.

It sure is a blue map if you chop it off at Hadrian's Wall.

I suppose the other side of the coin would be a setting up of the Soviet Republic of Scotland. I just wonder how many businesses would feel happy about investing in such a place once the oil runs out.

I just love it when I hear the Daily Mail reader open their mouths and spout off about Scotland being subsidised by England. Even if it was true it isn't by a bunch of cloth-capped whippet breeders:

Public Spending in Yorkshire and Humberside:

http://www.ukpublicspending.co.uk/Yorkshire_and_Humber_country_spending.html , which excludes pension payments.

Wealth Generated in Yorkshire & Humberside:

Public Spending in Scotland:

http://www.ukpublicspending.co.uk/Scotland_country_spending.html, which includes pension payments.

Wealth generated in Scotland (which excludes North Sea oil revenues):

So, who subsidises who my black pudding munching southern monkeys?

I'll try not to. Don't be too upset when your taxes go up to make up for the loss of the "subsidy" you have been doling out all these years.

How long before the Cockneys want rid of you lot along with the scousers, manks and Geordies?
