Cost of policing Julian Assange wikileaks siege.

Recommended Posts

it seems the cost of policing "round the clock" outside the embassy where julian Assange is claiming asylum has risen to somewhere between £2.5 and £3m, is it about time that diplomatic status is removed from this embassy and the police go in and arrest Mr Assange so he can face the charges that he is so obviously scared of? its a waste of resources and police time.

Couldn't agree more. They shouldn't be there in the first place.

and in the real world, Adam would you try and keep away from some trumped up charges which might be politically motivated?

would you not want to get arrested if you possibly could?

why? the embassy and their Government and Assange obviously are using our very lax diplomatic system to gain an avantage! remove the immunity until Assange is arrested, fairly straightforward.......?

They're not costing us money, they haven't asked for millions to be spent watching them.

trumped up charges or not, not really any of the uk business is it? these charges are in sweden where the laws are different and the last time i looked a fairly humane system of law so a fair trial guilty or not would be the outcome and if the charges are "trumped up" as you say with the worlds media looking on unlikely to stick??? and to be fair if you dont want to get mixed up in political issues "Mr Assange" dont get involved, and Mel its not a case of not being arrested its a statement of 2 fingers to our diplomatic system and playing with the law at our tax payers cost:loopy:

dont be so obtuse! of course they are costing us money, the police are there as he is a fugative from the law and the police have to be there as their hands are tied diplomatically.

so what would you do then? let him go shopping , maybe stop for lunch and a pint , then return to the embassy unhindered??

Maybe use less police?

Just a thought.

is there actually police there around the clock? or is it actually a case of if he leaves, and is seen, is caught and straight off to the swedes / US by his short and curlies?

Did they ever actually charge him with anything in the end?

Last time I looked Sweden just wanted 'to ask a few questions'

They refused an invite into the embassy to do it there tho

That seems a slippery slope.

The solution would be to stop wasting police time and resources and arrest him if he tries to leave the country or is seen out and about. There are worse people than him walking our streets.
