samssong   10 #1 Posted April 27, 2017 (edited) Our local rag the Star has surpassed its self this last week with its blatant reporting of all things United . Todays massive spreads dips the biscuit even further in the tea by awarding United team of the year and Wilder manager of the year.  How they reach this conclusion is baffling even to a neutral when the highest achievers in South Yorkshires six by a Country mile are our Owls who sit in a play off place in the second division 19 places above United also Barnsley who are also miles in front in the same division .  Darron Ferguson over at Doncaster has also been ignored after taking his shoe string side to the top of his division while spending nowt. So the awards have been awarded by our unbiased local rag and it seems as though if the Owls do the impossible and actually get promoted to the promised land it will be to late to award them the trophy for the best team along with the best manager.   To Top it all this bias paper is on page 69 spouting the headline that the Blades season should be made into a Hollywood film (Shaun Bean in it)  Whatever next;) Edited April 27, 2017 by samssong
 Share this content via...

Even if it will be a great feat.
 Share this content via...
Sheridan1-0 Â Â 407 #3 Posted April 27, 2017 United's achievement this season is to be applauded ..fair play to them....but you would think these awards would have been held once the season is over and done with. Â Lets hope the ultimate award for Wednesday is gained around the end of May..
 Share this content via...
samssong   10 #4 Posted April 27, 2017 So if the Owls are promoted to the Premiership ,they along with Carlos will not be the most successful team in Yorkshire( by miles )even after the managers and bad decisions that they also have been through ? melthebell   862 #5 Posted April 27, 2017 So if the Owls are promoted to the Premiership ,they along with Carlos will not be the most successful team in Yorkshire( by miles )even after the managers and bad decisions that they also have been through ? it didnt say successful, its about achievement, and United have done it above and beyond the call of duty. Being champions is above playoff contenders?, or even 2nd, 3 teams get promoted from the division theyre in, only one can be champions. Sadly we wont, but hopefully we'll still go up and itll still be a massive achievement, and we WILL get the column inches in the press. Hotmale 1954 Â Â 201 #8 Posted April 27, 2017 (edited) Sheffield United are the first club to win Division 1 in 2017. That's right up there with Brian Deane's 'record'. United are now part of an 'elite group' who have won all four Divisions. It's a great achievement and is rightly applauded by 'The Star'. The award however, seems like it's been handed out a little prematurely. Â Whether The Star's view is right or not, is open to debate. They couldn't wait to see what Donny achieve, so it seems that they've rushed their decision. If United have won it because they're in a higher League than Donny, then really The Star should have waited to see what the region's highest placed club achieve before going to print. You don't get silverware or owt for the award, so really, it's not that important. We shouldn't lose any sleep about it. Â Well done Chris Wilder! I've got to say though, if Wednesday get promoted, which I think they will... that will be a great achievement and as a Blade I've got to say it has bigger meaning, for obvious reasons. Â If Wednesday go up, I'd be the first to give a reluctant congratulations. Â As for winning the Sheffield Star awards... it's a symbol of the City is ours. At least for 3 more weeks any way! Robbie Loving   10 #10 Posted April 27, 2017 you would think these awards would have been held once the season is over and done with.  Totally agree, you don't see player of the month handed out on the 26th of the month do you?  That said, Wilder's achievements this year have been phenomenal to be honest. From a team who couldn't be bothered to everyone pulling together from the bottom to the top.  He has taken us from a mid-table finish last year to champions on a lower wage and transfer budget than Adkins. He has us playing good football and scoring freely.  I think the award would be deserved even if the Owls got promoted.
 Share this content via...
