James Bond - Spectre

Recommended Posts

Went to see this last night, very disappointing, just seems to be same old same with bits of other bond movies stuck together to form a very shallow storyline.

Knew within about 30 seconds of seeing him who was going to be one of the main bad guys and how Bond goes through fights and explosions and the usual car stunts without so much as a bruise a scratch or a black eye is incredible.

Give me the Bourne films anytime much more gritty.

I agree, I too was disappointed with it after enjoying the Daniel Craig era.

It seems like this Bond has gone back to the pre Daniel Craig Bond formula The set pieces were jaw droppingly good, it was beautify shot, and suitable glamorous, but there wasn't a sense of jeopardy or vulnerability that Daniel Craig brought to his previous films.

Unfortunately for me this meant I was less emotionally involved with the movie and it made it a movie without depth.

The fans of the pre-DC era will love the movie.

Oh no, I was looking forward to this...

I can't stand it though, when these kind of films stretch reality way too far, as to be utterly incredulous. You want them to be incredible but slightly believable...

The last film was full of plot holes so big you could drive a bus through them. I agree, the first two films were edgy and had some realism. I couldn't suspend my disbelief for longer than five minutes last time and the gamekeeper wandering round the moors with a torch and the head of MI5 was just ridiculous.

Thank you!

Yes yes yes, I totally agree. I thought I was losing my sanity and / or judgement; the chaps in the same office as me thought Quantum of Solace was rubbish, but Sky Fall was great. I was thinking the Casino Royal / Quantum of Solace were entertaining and gritty. I hated Sky Fall though, it was utterly incredulous, not at all believable.

I can't really explain any of this without plot spoilers but Spectre felt like it was setting up future movies and because of this the second half of the film was slightly unsatisfactory in terms of pay-off. And not even the opening credits could save that Sam Smith song.

On the plus side, the pre-credit Day of the Dead bit was superb and became one of my favourite Bond openers. Visually stunning, exciting and a great drum beat. Also chief henchman Mr Hinks was great and genuinely came across as a match for Bond.

Seen it tonight and a little underwhelmed, Craig is good, the film looks fantastic (lots of darkly lit scenes though) the opening scene and climax are great but the middle is a load of exposition dressed up as a story line with the odd lacklustre action scene thrown in 6.5/10 at the most.

I'm a huge fan of single take sequences, and that was a stunning opening segement, moving from the bustle of the crowds, through streets, hotel, lift, room, balcony, rooftop! Amazing set piece, followed by a thrilling helicopter sequence.

Really enjoyed the rest of the film too, loving the nods and winks to the old films, but can understand why it doesn't resonate with others. I think the main flaw is that the pre-credit sequence is so well done that the rest of the film doesn't quite match up to it.

Also, the opening titles sequence was great (although I did plug my ears and hum the theme to "You Only Live Twice" rather than listen to Sam bleeding Smith), but it did go a bit tentacle-hentai at parts and could have been an opening scene from Urotsukidoji ;)
