HORRIBLE PLACE and for anyone considering moving there---DON'T!  You reap what you sow. My experience of Sheffield and it's wonderful people is totally the opposite of yours. I hope that the east coast is all you believe it will be - although I suspect that you will find much the same there .... strange how that often happens. Hull is it ? Think about it mate .  ---------- Post added 23-05-2017 at 18:41 ----------  I love Sheffield for what it is, unpretentious, quirky, funny and with a great counter-culture, but that's more down to the people than the infrastructure.  The infrastructure is largely down to the Council, and here, there's plenty of room for improvement. One of the problems IMO, is that the Labour council see themselves as a permanent fixture and are utterly complacent. They are short on ideas and frankly need a rocket up them.  If we are to have a new all powerful Mayor, let's hope we get the right person, a go-getting entrepreneur with the ambition to make Sheffield great. Maybe he/she can be the inspiration to make the necessary changes.  Totally agree. It's the people who make a city and the people in Sheffield are the best. area 51   10 #64 Posted May 23, 2017 I think you're wrong. It's the majority that don't care or at least they are indifferent to what goes on around them. It's the minority that can and do make the difference or try to. They're the ones that develop communities and get things organised. You keep on telling us all what a friendly bunch you are, talk to one another  You could get a section on this forum devoted to tidying your city up!  I am lucky i live in an area that doesnt need tidying up,we care about where we live, without naming areas it is quite clear that some areas are rundown because some of the people who live there have no pride or respect for where they live.I could take you to areas with rubbish strewn all over the streets and old washing machines ,tvs and sofas on the pavement. The rubbish fairies do not come out at night and do it its some of the people who live there that do it.The majority of sheffielders keep their homes and their area tidy, its not up to the majority to tidy up after the minority. Â That isn't what I said though. The majority can see what's happening but it's the minority that make the difference and turn it around with voluntary community groups, they create social inclusion in areas where there is none. Hey look, it's just an example of what can be done if people set their minds to it that's all
 Share this content via...
Cyclone   10 #66 Posted May 23, 2017 Yeah why not, it's a start, neighbourhood, streets, parks, graffiti whatever bugs people the most.  I pay council tax for the council to provide services like street cleaning. And frankly I've got better things to do with my time. I know Sheffield has no activities and nothing to do, but I've been to a yoga class, then climbing at one of Europe's largest bouldering walls tonight.  ---------- Post added 23-05-2017 at 22:31 ----------  Lived in Sheffield since I was 22 & moved from Rotherham. I've only lived in two locations in Sheffield, both in S6, but I have well groomed, pleasant, helpful neighbours.
 Share this content via...

avalunche   10 #70 Posted May 24, 2017 I wonder why thats always the first defence - "if you don't like it then leave" well, how about no?  Its classic socialism. Like it or lump it. The whole country will vote Tory next month, except Sheffield because Labour has done such an amazing job here. lol  It will never change, because the people will hold us back, they have for decades. If you want things to get better, they are right, the only solution is leave.
 Share this content via...
Cyclone   10 #71 Posted May 24, 2017 It's classic common sense. If you dislike living somewhere and think that other places are better, why wouldn't you have moved?  I suspect you're very wrong about the upcoming vote, although the tories do seem to be very good at convincing turkeys to vote for xmas. Do you not have to like it and lump it then? The only solution isn't to leave. If you felt held back, or Sheffield is being held back, why not become active & try & change things? Or is getting off your backside to change things just the job of those pesky socialists?
 Share this content via...
