Robin-H 11 #169 Posted January 12, 2017 Has anyone noticed that none of the political parties promise to do anything regarding plugging the tax avoidance loophole? Billions in revenue is lost every year due to fat cats and corporates using our flawed tax system. Haven't any of the political parties promised anything? I seem to remember all major parties were pledging to be harsher on evasion and avoidance at the last election. Indeed I believe some changes have already been made. Robin-H 11 #171 Posted January 12, 2017 So name them. Name the changes? Ok 1) Public sector organisations are now prevented from paying workers through personal service companies to reduce tax bills. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/mar/16/osborne-closes-tax-loophole-public-sector-pay-freelancers 2) As part of a £3.1bn drive to claw back money lost through tax avoidance and evasion the Chancellor used his budget to announce a review of deeds of variation – that allow changes to be made to wills after someone’s death. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/budget-2015-tax-avoidance-door-closed-on-popular-legal-loophole-to-avoid-inheritance-bill-10118269.html 3) The chancellor (Hammond) is to close an aggressive tax avoidance scheme that was exposed by a Guardian investigation as depriving the taxpayer of “hundreds of millions” of pounds a year. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/nov/23/tax-avoidance-loophole-temp-recruitment-contrived-scheme-philip-hammond That's from a few seconds of googling. unbeliever 10 #172 Posted January 12, 2017 When we're done squashing the ridiculous notion that socialism confers happiness we can move on to the fact that there is more to welfare than happiness.
 Share this content via...

I'll believe it when it is plugged altogether, this immoral activity has been going on with the knowledge of all political parties many, many years. But you would agree that doing something is better than nothing tho I'm sure.
 Share this content via...
Mister M 1,625 #175 Posted January 13, 2017 When we're done squashing the ridiculous notion that socialism confers happiness we can move on to the fact that there is more to welfare than happiness. I don't think anyone on here has suggested that socialism causes happiness, or that capitalism causes unhappiness. The debate, as I understand it, is much more nuanced than that. Hopkins 10 #176 Posted January 13, 2017 The man is a complete nutcase . His far left socialism views have no place in modern society. He's a Tory Plant, like Derek Hatton and Tory Bliar and Benn.
 Share this content via...
Cyclone 10 #177 Posted January 13, 2017 Did you look at the data I found? Denmark has high state spending, but Switzerland is very low and Iceland is pretty average. So there is no correlation between socialism and happiness. It was only a passing comment that many of the countries in that list were socialist. They still are. I'll accept that others aren't though. ---------- Post added 13-01-2017 at 21:40 ---------- Did you carefully ignore the rest of my post with all the correlations you didn't feel comfortable with?
