Ofcause I pick what I eat. We all do. However, we are also, like it or not, influenced by marketing. Out of every 100 customers in mcdonalds, how many do you think buy and extra value meal? How many of those customers will go large?
Chocolate bar manufacturers were told to stop making their extra large bars, some time ago. What did they do in response?.... Split it in half and market it as a bar for sharing!! Ha!
It's a total myth that teenagers are less active than they were 20 years ago. Studies have been carried out to prove this. The government just haven't published these studies......I wonder why?

Because these are kids drinking these, imnot talking about adults, they old enough to decide what they drink though kids know no better. These energy drinks may have been running for years but were intended for adults, they are now being marketed towards kids. Why does it affect me? .. Because I care that's why..

It's not that simple though is it? Maybe it is for you, I don't know you.
But there are millions of people sucked in by these unhealthy products, that are specifically aimed at a target market, usually children or teenagers. It's a dark, underhanded tactic that needs to be looked into by the government.
These companies are making billions in profit by selling our children, what can only be described as s**t! They know it's not good for you, yet they continue to shovel it down our necks and giving away toys and games to our fat little kids as a thank you present.
There's no question to the fact that some people find really calorie rich food addictive, and these people are costing the NHS millions, much the same as smokers. Yet, while cigarettes are hidden from view, taxed heavily, and banned from public spaces, supermarkets are giving us 3 bags of Walkers crisps for the price of 2!

because they are selling things that are really bad for you whilst pretending they are good for you. It affects everyone ultimately. When kids are hyped up on e-numbers and caffeine they can't concentrate at school. That will affect them later on when they leave without having learnt anything. They will be fat and thick-it does affect us!

I agree with this. As far as children go it's a parental decision. As far as students go (apparently they are the worst offenders) the danger of certain food types is well documented; sugar and caffeine especially. Eating healthy is forever being pushed in our faces. It is a choice people make either for themselves or for someone in their care. Supermarkets are awash with good and bad drinks, no one is directed to the latter, ultimately someone decides.

But are they really bad for you or is it just a few peoples personal opinion. Mothers are still convinced that children can get hyper or get a "sugar buzz" from drinks etc and yet there is no truth in it. Some are also convinced that drinking them damages teeth when again there is no truth to it.
Like most of these drinks what they are supposed to and what they actually do is generally just hyped up marketing and so far no one has proven that they are bad.

Damn right, these young teens charged to the eyeballs on these drinks over a period of time wont be able to function properly once they cant get their fix for whatever reason. There is a new addiction quietly establishing itself in our society. I suggest those parents who let their kids drink this potion of chemicals- the totally irresponsible ones that even buy it for them on their supermarket run- get clued up on the symptoms of addiction.

Yes someone doing 60 minutes down at the local gym twice a week will not need any of these types of drinks, plain old water is all is needed.
Drinks like lucozade sport are just a huge con, i find it funny when I'm down the gym and see all these yummy mummy's come in spend 30 minutes on the treadmill all necking down bottles of lucozade sport. Water does exactly the same thing as lucozade sport, it hydrates you.
They is some merit into more specialist energy drinks from companies like SIS but most of us doing just a little bit of physical activity won't need to drink them.

Qi! and where are yours from?
Experiments and tests have been done and placebos given to kids and yet the parents who's children received placebo's still believe that their kids acted hyper. Its also been published in various journals.
And see dv82 post.

Just try checking the facts and not the hype.
I think you will find that as the drink is not in contact with the teeth for that long it does not damage them. After drinking the teeth are also washed in saliva which also has a diluting effect. If you immersed a tooth in a sugary drink and left it for around 6 months then you would possibly notice some damage. The main problem with these drinks is the acid they contain not the sugar and even then the above situation applies.
Now, how may people hold the drink in their mouth for a long, long time without swallowing?
Answers on a postcard please..

Firstly, my son, as well as millions of other young infants, loves to hold his pop in his mouth and swill it round. I'm forever telling him to stop it!
Secondly, if you have any children with loose teeth or any loose ones of your own; save that tooth and put it in a glass of original coca cola, over night. You'll soon change your mind about the dammage it can cause teeth.
I can remember doing this with one of my own teeth when I was young. The tooth was black and misshapen the next morning.
