Hi i'm considering getting my van sign written but wonder if this will bring extra work. What do forum users think?

it was the best thing i did with mine....
looks a lot better to turn up with a sign written van, then a plain van...

also provide a landline number looks better, as customers i have done jobs for commend that as it is easy to provide a pay as you go mobile number....( customers feedback)

the amount of work i get from passing trade is defo better.....

my van was fully signed up for £150, (a lot of space covered)....

If you want a professional image, get it done. Its free advertising and people will notice you. Also consider getting a logo designed if you have not already done so.

Before this turns into a thread with people providing recommendations, the OP is only asking if its worth doing. Requests for recommendations need to go in a new thread in the vacancies forum.

Hey! I had my car done a few weeks ago and it's a real talking point. It gets me enquiries and a fair few people aproach me about it.
The only problem is randoms will come up to me and say "Hi Jenny, I saw you in such and such a place yesterday" which is a bit bizarre but it's obviously working and I'm getting used to it now. It was the best £150 I have spent. Make sure you get a decent person to do it and if you need details, please let me know (can send pics too)

When I had mine done, the insurance company charged me an extra £50-00. They said it was more likely to be broken into.!!!

I agree with the others, it's worth having it done. I get enquiries when I'm out at work.

Hi, not only does it bring in work but also gives the customers confidence in the work/service you provide as they see you can be bothered to make the effort to have the van sign written in the first place & your company is not likely to vanish in the near future!

2nd bonus is that you can charge more for your services as the customer will take into account that your whole operation outlay is more than someone without a sign written van & will gladly pay you the extra money.

It's only common sense that geting your van sign written has more positive effects on your business.

It's only the Cowboys that don't have sign written vans as they don't plan on using the same name on their businesses for long or they're trying to take rubbish to the local public dump site posing as a private individual so not to get charged by the council for Trade waste.

**snip - see post above**

Also may i suggest if you haven't already done so that is?...Company uniforms also helps the image of your company too in the same way you can achieve more money from the customer if you are dealing with them in person & they do not see your van. **SNIP**

If you are getting it done I suggest you get someone to proof read the work before paying for it. The van at the end of my road has Electrical Contractor written on one side but has Electrical Contactor on the other. I also followed a builder's van the other day with extension written extention.

I'm not being pedantic, it just shows a lack of attention to detail and throws into question the owner's professionalism.

Agreed - I have seen "No job to small" written on a builders van

I wondered if he meant "No job t'small" and the signwriting made a mistake?

I'm sure it's worth it, people can get contact details for your type of work,
I agree with other posts saying get it done well for a good image but,,, from a personal point, if I am cut up on the roads by a trade van I make a mental note not to deal with them in the future. By the same token, if a trade van lets me out of a busy junction I remember that too.

I was just going to mention this point. If thieves think that tools etc; are stored in it, its more likely to get broken into.

The van doesnt give me a great deal of business, I get between three and five jobs per year from it, which means in theory it pays for itself quite easily. My van sign paid for itself after the first month.

The main benefits are a more professional image and I definately get more work when a customer actually sees the van pull up outside the house when I do a quote.

i would get my van sign written but i know loads of dj's who have had their vans raided simply because their sign is advertising that there may be valuable gear inside. so, may not work for everyone.

It will make you more concious of your driving too! Others will read your phone number and ring you to complain! My kids learnt to drive in my signwritten Fiesta, and I always told them that I would be the first to know if they drove like idiots!

van signage can be a great way of attracting extra business. The problem is many vans I've seen simply put their name on the site and a few words about what they do, this doesn't really sell the business. If you treat it like an advertisement space you will get more work. Think about it this way, would you take much notice of a an advert in your local paper if it was plain white with a bit of text??
take a look at http://www.sheffielddesignservices.c...ails.php?id=41 this is one I designed a while back. As you can see you can tell what service rb building offer without even reading any of the text. Also he has the website in bold. Much easier to remember a company name instead of a number.

Also why not go for a magnetic van sign? this way you don't have to declare it to your insurance company !
