Not remotely the same - Dooley was manager, Currie was... well, the equivalent of Roger the Greeter at Asda?

I quite agree about Derek Dooley, his sacking was shambolic, as regards to TC; at least they got a petition up, when Asda wanted to stop Roger going to new store.

I expect Currie to retire early , due to ill health. Has been on medication for some time (years) .
To Blades of a certain age he was/is God. Am sure he will still have a role as a match day host and keep a link to the club he has served well.
But lets be honest , as much as its unfortunate, unless your under 40 year old most of our fan base would never have seen him play, like the Owls on here commenting on him, many would not have seen him play or know owt about the legend that is Tony Currie.
Good luck to him .
Have been in his company several times, had Polish visitors over last season, he was happy to discuss "that" Poland match and their stars with them , willing to have photos etc , a proper gent. However his shyness sometimes worked against him and he was misread as sulky.
2/3 seasons ago, he came and sat/stood with me for a whole match, his knowledge on the game shone through, as did his knowledge of the playing surface etc, us mere supporters would never have picked upon.
CB and myself bumped into him on Wembley way, i was to beeved up, to remember, but hey ho, i took a photo of CB with him. Again , no doubt he conducted himself with the grace of a true club ambassador.

LB still remember him kissing Birchenall, and sitting on the ball in front of Alan Ball when we walloped them 5-0 that night, but I'll never, ever forget the goal against WHU that was one of the BEST goals seen anywhere.
Shrek Rooney could only dream of getting one like that, there is a difference between hitting a ball & it either goes in, or high wide & handsome, but that goal was beauty to admire forever.

Bypass - it's there in the vaults of the BBC.
Am I correct in thinking John Motson commentated on that game and surmised the goal "a quality goal from a quality player"?

They had TC promoting bladesplayer on the big screen last season, so you never know - perhaps a role coaching with the youngsters at Shirecliffe would've been good all round, what TC must have learnt from the game over the years, it's a shame he's not involved in some way there.
Top man Roger, he's still there welcoming customers while doing other tasks!

He may get better treatment across the city like Dooley did.

You are more than correct yes he did, its a shame but he's had a few years out of United, but at the end of the day he'll always be my hero.

As i recall and stand to be corrected, we lost got thrashed down at Highbury 5-0 and Alan ball showed off by sitting on the ball in live play, yep we went 5-0 up at home and god got his own back and sat on the ball in live play
Yes i saw the "quality goal from a quality player" live. i also saw recent pitures of the same, i was only a youngster of about 10 at the time, and forgot the South Stand was still in construction and we were down to 3 sides, TV cameras were in there at the time.

You are right LB it was revenge by TC on Ball, the night we "thrashed" them 5-0, we were 4-0 up, in 17 minutes, you had to be there, our mate was 20 mins late he walked in said hey up lads whats score? & almost passed out when we told him. Also the night we beat Arsenal they interview AB not long after & he said Sheffield United, were just a 3rd division team on a good run, turned out to be very, very prophetic.
Just seen a picture of it from 75 & yes; the SS still being built I was 17 at the time, he got 10/10 in the papers the next day.

Are you sure that's what he said BP? At the time United had never been in the third division.

Yep he did, that's why I mentioned it was so prophetic as till then; we'd never been lower than 11th in Division 2. I know all about us, followed us through all 5 divisions fella.

Well put that way you'd have to put Alan Ball up there with Nostradamus and Muhammad, lol.
Dismissing eighty-odd years as just a good run was a bit of a bold statement.

Well I think the great man was TAD angry at time of being asked (insert dummy), if memory serves he was also not very complimentary to TC either. Both he & Arsenal has just been severely embarrassed by United.
