Is the bleeding actually from the penis, or the sheath (ie: irritation under the skin). Has he been tested for yeast infection? (apologies if you've already mentioned this, I skim read due to a puppy nipping my ankles! Lol).

Yeast infection can cause all of the symptoms you've described although it may be he has allergies alongside making it doubly uncomfortable and resistant to treatment.

Just one site with some info, but there are lots so have a Google:

Atopica is good for allergies, but expensive. There's an excellent herbal treatment for yeast infection which I've unfortunately gone blank on the name, but a friend uses it with good results so I'll check with her and get back to you. XX

Hi Girlytrude,

thank you for your message and link, i found it very useful. Hope your ankles are still in tact, LOL.

I think its more from his sheath. It all started with scratching and licking himself. So i took him to vet who then said he had an allergy. Then he started with the blood spotting.

I was told that a sample was sent to an external lab, which came back this friday showing negative to infections, but i dont know if they actually tested for yeast infection. i will call vet and ask.

He is now being prescribed Prednidale. He is still young, only about 2 years. We got him when he was 10mnths old and only now this has all flared up.

My dog too has a skin complaint we have been using malaseb shampoo monthly from the vets and was advised to use salmon and potato dried food diet. There aren't many choices on the market but we have been buying Fishmongers salmon and potato food from Pets at home £29.99 for 10kg bag and have noticed a real difference in his skin after 2 months
Good luck

The name I couldn't remember earlier is Neem Oil. There are lots of variations on the market, ready prepared, or you can buy and mix yourself:

The problem with steroids for allergy, is that if it is a yeast infection the steroids can make it worse. I'd definitely ask your vet if yeast infection has been considered, whilst at the same time trying a grain free diet, soothing baths (Malaseb, Hibiscrub, Nizoral) and Piriton or Atopica.

I really hope you get it sorted. My little old JRT girl had a terrible response to grass and we went through the gauntlet finding things that worked for her. I lost her last month to pneumonia after 2 wonderful years with her, but diet and Atopica definitely worked for her, not 100% but it gave her a better quality of life XX
