You were pulled up for arguing that the country which won three times is not the same country as the one still entering under the name of Germany - because you were wrong.
|
I wouldn't really call it an argument as I accepted you were right in my very next reply to your post, as I admitted I was wrong I said the facts only use was to wind up Germans.
Anyway lets not spend an entire evening arguing over pointless issues.

Maybe you missed this point?

Incidentally, repeating gibberish in different words doesn't make it any less gibberish.

Maybe if you looked at the context in which I used that "gibberish" it might make more sense. I was admitting that you were right, and explaining why.
Anyway lets not spend all evening arguing over pointless issues.

That you don't know the difference between facts and nonsense? No, I caught that in the first post you made. You've only repeated it four times since then.

It does rather cast doubt on just how useful these rankings could ever be.

How do you mean finished higher than 6th in a tournament?
Wouldn't Euro 96 be included?

Third in Euro 68?
The World Cup of 1982 is one that is looked back on unfairly as a failure. We started the tournament with Keegan and Brooking injured, yet won every group match convincingly. This includes beating Platini's France 3-1 (who lost on penalties in the semi-finals). We then went out in the second group stage after two draws, and this was seen as a disaster. Brazil went out at the same stage, that's the '82 Brazil of Zico, Socrates, Falcao etc - rightly seen as one of the best Brazil teams of all time. We have a habit of seeing any exit before the semi's as a total failure, no matter who it is who has beaten us.

Wow, so you actually did notice that I acknowledged you were right and it was only meant as a bit of fun; and you continued with your tirade! Imagine how you would have responded if you thought I disagreed with you! Defcon 2 maybe?

East Germany (DDR), West Germany (FRD), and The Saarland
The Saarland is a German state which is on the border with France. It was occupied by the French after World War II under the peace terms agreed, and remained so until it's reunificataion with West Germany in 1956. It entered the 1954 World Cup and failed to qualify for the finals after finishing second in it's group. This was the only tournament it ever played in.
