Hi,

I am trying to change a light bulb inside a light fitting on my shower's ceiling.

The fitting looks like this photo.

Any idea on how to open the fitting so I can get at the bulb inside?

Have you tried unscrewing the whole thing? CAREFULLY.

It looks like a halogen spot lamp that is fitted in a hole in the ceiling. If the glass part doesn't unscrew then pull the whole thing down. They are held in place by pair of sprung clips.

If it is a halogen then I'd recommend replacing the bulb with a decent LED equivalent, e.g. Kosnic. They last 20 years, have a nicer light and use a small fraction of the electricity, though cost about £12 each to buy.

I've got some of these in the bathroom. Mine were from Wickes. They are very hard to get off, but you have to unscrew the glass cover. The metal surround stays where it is. As there isn't anything to hold on to you have to push your fingertips quite tightly against the glass while you unscrew (in order to get some grip). It's thick glass so it's OK for doing this. Eventually it will start to move. After only about a quarter turn the glass cover will be ready to drop out as the threads on it are quite short (so keep hold of it). The bulb is a screw-in spotlight.

Thanks this makes sense as I suspect as much. I sort of can see the glass cover thread slots.

Will eventually try it again
