Hi guys,

Im trying to find a decent priced place to get new brake discs on my 05 plate vauxhall astra (due to it being on my advisory sheet)

Is it best to buy them in pairs, even though i just need 1 front and 1 rear??

Anywhere cheap ish that either just sells them, or sells and fits??

Looking for cheap brakes. Wow the most essentail working part on a car, don't cut corners for others' sakes if not your own.

The best place to buy them is CLICK HERE.

Click & enter "Your Reg" number then "Brake Discs" to get a price.

You can pick them up from Penistone Road.

Then get STS to fit them on Leppings Lane.
For a fitting price phone 0114 232 4640.

Brake Discs should be replaced in axle pairs and new Brake Pads fitted at the same time.

I used to go there to Euro Car Parts and then found exactly the same brand of brake parts on ebay for half the price.

Try HERE AS WELL , it doesn't hurt to compare prices.

You didn't specify exactly which model so you will have to have a look through for your specific ones, but all the prices are for axle sets of 2 discs and 4 brake pads.

Getting them fitted should be easy enough

Another +1 for Euro, as they always have a 15% or 25% offer on.

GSF are also recommended: http://www.gsfcarparts.com/branches

Not so sure about that. I'd steer clear of any car where the owner skimped in this way, it would make me wonder what other corners he's cut during ownership.

Just do both sides and add it to the sale price, and proudly state its had a new set.

Do nothing just now, if you think you may sell it, If it didn’t fail and only advised they are more than sure they will last 12 months. depending how many miles you cover they could be advised next year and the year after that. I have known advised be that way for 5 years. And before anyone jump in and tells me I am wrong (usually do) I am a mechanic(30 years) I do know what I am talking about. Pm me if you need any further help.
I would seriously question any garage that would advise ns or os when advising on discs, you should be reading front or rear, never ever do 1 side only.

brake depot in chesterfield, manufacture themselves and sell quality pads, you can find them on internet, not the cheepest when compared on ebay but they are quality and safe items.

By "disc pads" do you mean the discs AND pads, or just pads, for discs?

im a mechanic and mot tester.

advisory items are things a car can fail on but AT THE TIME OF TEST are just passable.
or items that arn't within the test items but in the opinion of the tester still require attention.

to say advisory items are going to but ok for 12 months is just plain wrong.

for example a tyre is on 2mm tread wear and so gets advised...... its obviously not going to last 12 months is it?
or "brake pads wearing thin" as an advisory. if they are like 80% worn then youve got roughly 2000 miles left to be safe. if your doing 10k a year then they're obviously not going to last a year.......

an advised item ideally needs checking out by a garage that didnt do the test to check if it genually needs sorting or the testing garage are just fishing for work and but do this soon!! then get it sorted before the next test.

You are wrong. An advisory means they are good enough to pass the test, it does not mean they will necessarily last 12 months.

If you're a mechanic, you should realise that when an MOT tester advises on an item, they are specific to the location of it. The tester will advise something like "O/S/F brake disc surface pitted/poor condition", they are not saying you should replace this single disc, they are advising you of what they have found.
