On London Road next to Pho 68, there's a Chinese restaurant that says "Korean BBQ" on the window, just wondering if anyone's been there and can offer any comments, particularly on the Korean option

Korean food is not Chinese food, but it doesn't matter cause Korean, Japanese and Chinese are all in the Far East and they have lots of tastes in common than other regions.
I don't know if you've had Korean BBQ before. I love Korean BBQ very much!! It's a fantastic experience to do it with friends!!
I've never had Korean BBQ in England but in my hometown Hong Kong. It tastes fantastic but costs at least £12 over there and I guess it'll cost a lot more in London Rd. I hope you'll love the food and I think the taste'll be more accepted by the British than many Chinese dishes. Korean food doesn't have much salty and sour flavour, but a lot of sweet flavour and spicy for certain dishes.
From my experience, Korean food usually costs more than Japanese food, which's already more expensive than Chinese, so do prepare to pay a hell lot.
BBQ is not the Korean's daily food but a delicacy for occasions.

Hi, yes I've had Korean BBQ once before, in London. It was superb and a great social way to eat, but as you say very expensive. Unbelievably expensive in fact but I was hoping that was just central London for you and it might be a bit more affordable in Sheffield. So nobody's been to this place then? Sorry I don't know the name of it, I just noticed it last time we went to Pho 68.

yes I know there's a Korean BBQ in Sheffield and this might be the only one Korean restaurant in Sheffield. I'd say London may not necessary be dearer cause me and some of my friends have found that Chinese food in London Chinatown is cheaper than in Birmingham and Manchester Chinatown. Propably the reason is competition!

My Chinese friends do regularly dine in London Rd each month so I propably be able to ask one who've been to this restaurant. I haven't been to any Oriental restaurants in London Rd before cos I get on more with English friends and I eat English food more.

I just arrived back from nearly three years in Korea, and I have to say I'm already missing the food.
Any more information on this place? It would be nice to hear from someone who has been and can recommend it, or not.
Thanks in advance.

To everyone interested in this Korean restaurant. I made the effort to go up there today and investigate it. Unfortunately, although it does have a massive sign in the window saying 'KOREAN BUFFET' it actually doesn't sell any korean food. The sign is an old one and he restaurant only sells very very traditional chinese food. I went in, asked for the buffet and when I saw the food decided against it.
Don't waste your time in this restaurant there is NO Korean food.
Hope this helps!

Ah yes, I forgot to mention that I'd been too. It's pretty filthy, and as far as I can tell they don't sell Korean food. In addition, there was an old Chinese woman staring me out throughout the whole meal. The Chinese food that I did have was pretty rancid. Not recommended.

Just in case anyone is interested . . .
The best Korean food that is close to Sheffield is in Manchester. They have a restaurant fairly central called 'Koreana' and one just outside the centre which is smaller but much nicer and cheaper called 'Seoul Kimchi'.

Went to visit a friend in Busan last year, loved the food, although I had enough kimchi to last a lifetime, so wont been seeking that out again soon.
I loved Galbi (sp?) BBQ places so will hopefully be giving this a go in Sheffield soon. The price is always as issue over here, in Korea, we had a 3 hour banquet, duck, pork, roast garlic and leaves to eat from with enough beer and soju to knock me over, all for £50 (between the 3 of us).
I would bet the same meal in any Korean place here would set you back atleast double, if not much much more!

The place on lond road is Yuen Shan, it is not korean but they were doing Korean style BBQ. Again another China Chinese Restaurant.
They have now under new mangement as the company has been bought out.

Well said Liam - good recommendations too.
I know of the Korean restaurants you mention in Manchester and I didn't think for one minute that something similar was trading on London road under the title of "Korean Buffet".
This is becoming a bit of a catch-all phrase for some Eastern style buffet restaurants and is pretty meaningless as you have already made clear.
