ECCOnoob   1,043 #13 Posted December 20, 2011 Who has money to waste in Casino and it is certainly not what an already failing town centre needs  Well obviously plenty of people otherwise they would not be investing money into building some more. Take a trip down to G Casino or Napoleons on an average weekend - they are hardly empty.  As other more rational people on here have said there is more to a casino than "wasting money", the bars, restaurant, socialising, entertainment... etc. For people who have a brain its just a fun night out. No more or less wasteful than going to the dogs or horse racing or even a pub quiz if you want to be picky.  God sake lighten up.  Ever stop to think about the potential job prospects, regeneration and reuse of a building that has been stood empty for years, additional footfall to the area etc.... It might actual make some difference to our so called "failing town centre" (btw, its a City not a town)
 Share this content via...

Tess   10 #15 Posted December 20, 2011 As we already have a G Casino, and a couple of Napoleons', I'd be interested to see what "brand" take this one on.
 Share this content via...

bzb73 Â Â 10 #17 Posted December 20, 2011 Going to a restaurant near a casino doesn't look very attractive. Â That is a contender for ridiculous statement of the year. Â Take a look at Napoleons on Eccy Road..Kitchen (situated about a minutes walk away) is currently the highest rated restaurant on TripAdvisor for Sheffield and there is a lot of other good ones nearby (Le Bistrot Pierre, Felicini etc). Â On top of that, both G and Naps serve pretty high quality food, especially 'for a casino'... Â This development can only be good for the area, hope it's a success
 Share this content via...
LucDom   10 #18 Posted December 20, 2011 Going to a restaurant near a casino doesn't look very attractive.  Casinos have a very bad reputation. Been working in the industry for a few months and been surprised as most people tend to be at the product on offer these days. Food/Entertainment etc. I think you need to come out of the dark ages and welcome the fact that there will be jobs created in a City that needs it. Have you been inside any of the Sheffield casinos recently?
 Share this content via...

aeinstein199   10 #22 Posted December 20, 2011 130 employees all paying tax and NI, + the business rates + any other taxes the casino will pay. I am sure the council will be happy with their share!  People seem to forget about that part, of course the casino's make money or they wouldn't exist, but the Governement and Council take a fair chunk of tax.  To put it in to some comparative terms I occasionally for my sins go to watch Sheffield Wednesday.....£20 for a ticket, £5 Parking, £5 in the stadium and £3 for a programme, best part of £35 for 1.5 hours of entertainment. I could alternatively spend that on a bar meal, 2 pints, watch a live act for 1.5 hrs and still have £20 to gamble, win or lose I still get more 'entertainment' than the football! Anything done in moderation can't be that bad.
 Share this content via...
