Now by photorealistic I guess I mean TV realistic.

Do you think we will have games in our lifetime that would be truly indistinguishable to its TV equivalent?

Even in movies you can often tell if CGI is used. There's either something in the eyes, the textures or the movement. Will we ever get it right with machines?

I think yes and no, on one hand the graphics will be photo-realistic within ten years but the AI and the movement of characters is going to be a challenge to get right. Even now the AI and movement in some games really sucks

I'm almost certain we will, I mean graphics are getting better and better all the time so logically they will reach a point in the not too distant future where they are photorealistic. As for animation, just look at Uncharted 2 and soon Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3, they all have very realistic character movement what with mocap and that, and facial movements seem to be catching up what with LA Noire recently.

Although tbh even now there are moments in games when things look pretty damn realistic. There are times when it would honestly be hard to distinguish GT5 from real life, especially when watching replays, if you were to just glance at it you'd think it was real. Same with some points in ARMA II (particularly when flying).

Not really sure I like the idea of that. I like my games... to look like games.

The CGI face of Jeff Bridges in tron legacy was quite impressive, but still a LONG way off looking realistic.

As Jarvis says, movement is a big problem in animation. I have yet to see decent walking and general movement animations in any video games. They seem to be concentrating on facial expressions (like with the new unreal engine) while neglecting basic movement.

It's a long way off indeed.... and for games: I am glad.
